I'm new to this forum, but not new to sinus infections. My son has them

chronically. The only thing that will clear one up is a good antibiotic

combined with Prednisone. There is no way around it with him. His doc says

that because his tissues swell so much in his sinuses, that the Prednisone

stops the swelling so the antibiotic can actually work. Without the

Prednisone, the antibiotic isn't able to reach the sinuses.

At the moment, we just got home from the peds. Both of 's ears are

badly infected. He has done so well on this set of ear tubes (better than

the first set) but now one seems to be coming out. I could tell a meltdown

was coming on, luckily, so we could fix the problem before Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone has a great holiday!

could it be a problem with the route? Might be kindof difficult for those oral

meds to make their way back up to the

sinuses. Maybe an IV course or inhaled/nebulized antibiotics.

Ursula,

Yes, uses Nasacort twice a day, whether he has an infection or not.

The Prednisone we only use when he is actively infected. His Ped says that

he has never, ever seen a kid whose tissues swell as much as Bri. I think

the Nasacort helps, but only to a point. Have you tried anything else

besides Rhinocort?

Sandi - have the doctor ever prescribed a steroid nasal spray to open up the

passageways? Macey has been on them since

she was 2 1/2 and they work very well. She's off of them right now but should

go back on the Rhinocort soon since the

winter is starting here. They are much easier on the whole body than the

systematic oral steroids and don't deplete the

immune system (or at least not as much).

Thanks Ursula. I haven't thought of that. The doctors have since called in

Suprax & Clyndomycin. I have my doubts about this. What do you think of

calling back and asking about this, or should I let him take them and see

what happens?
