Guest guest Posted January 4, 2009 Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 That's the BEST way to do it - I do that when I come to the States, never knowing what to expect, but do know if I bring a few kitchen supplies and a few pre-measured grains and beans I'll be doing ok - actually even better than ok, as much more organized than when I'm home. And I always have wonderful stuff from waiting for me, and could depend on the health food stores for organic veggies. ok, I'm more restricted because of the kashruth, but sometimes restrictions are good. Takes time but worth it. That's what some old hard core macros do. I can live on brown rice rolls from whole foods, Indian food, and whatever else I can scrounge for a few days. It’s funny really. The more I learn about macrobiotics, the more I can “stray” for a few days, and take care of myself better. I’m way more sensitive to what I need, or am missing, and know how to fix it, even when away from my kitchen. There were a couple of small hole in the wall places in the French Quarter that I went to when I was there before Katrina. They had fabulous vegan food. If I remember the one place was completely vegan. And the other restaurants I visited with others were more than accommodating of my needs. We spent one day at City Park at Storyland this cool place that Marlie loved. Took the ferry to the Algiers side. We went to Mississippi to a Krsna farm community one day to visit a friend too. They didn't list any places that are entirely veg at all. 99% of the time I don't eat at restaurants that cook animal products. Too risky and the energy is so much different. I have 2 vegan friends there and they can't eat out, no veg restaurants, and several veg friends who visited, everyone says the same thing.... Glad it worked for you. The only natural food stores that I know of are the two Whole Foods locations.
