Howdy Machaela,

Shireen posted a list of Australistanis from the forum's database in

about mid February (12th or 13th-ish). From time to time someone appears

here and asks " Any Aussies out there? " and then, after I reply (why does

nobody else reply apart from me?), no more is heard from them (I can

take a hint).

There's a goodly number of us, but unfortunately not too many in one

place, and Oz is unfortunately a much more non-trivial place to travel

around in (for get-togethering purposes, for example) than the sunny UK.

You're in Melbourne, apparently. If you're ever in sinful Sydney, drop

me a line and I'll see who I can scrape together. And vice versa.

We'd be really happy to meet up with the Aussies (come on over Rob!) when we're there...So far, we STILL haven't come across anyone with BPES here in Singapore. Oh well. Thanks so much for your replies!! I actually live about 130kms from

Melbourne! but would be willing to travel to meet you guys in

Melbourne if I can make it when you are there.-and to you Rob!!, one

day I will find myself in Sydney and I will look you up.

Its interesting to see that there are so few australians amongst

us..hmm..i wonder why that is?

Anyway wherever we are from it is great to feel connected.

What an amazing and overwhelming feeling it is,to not feel alone...

I go to Melbourne occasionally for business; I'll see what I can swing.

Better still, I'll see if I can talk the domestic authorities into an OS

holiday in Singapore. Went there on business in 1995 and 1998 so I'm due

for another steaming up.

The odds aren't much better in big countries either. In 47 years I've

never accidentally met another BPES-enhanced person. (But I think I

found one - working for the same mob as me, but in rural - last

February, but it didn't seem right to ask her, so I'm still not sure.)

Hi,

We're here!

We are a Sydney based family though just arrived in BrisVegas for a two year work stint.

Our daughter, Antonia (2yo) has BPES and just last month she had her folds done by at Sydney Eye Hospital. So far so good. We'll now wait and see if we get the lift done in another 2 years, though may not be necessary.

I am not sure if anyone from the group is up in QLD though a catch up would be great.

(If you pull together a Sydney get together, keep us informed as we may make it)

Hi,

We're up here in sunny QLD.

Im a mother of 4 and I have BPES and so do 2 of my boys one is 17 and the other is 9.

We moved to the coast from 2 1/2 years ago.

I only found this site 2 years ago,what a blessing.I meet Marie from NZ last year when she was in QLD .It was so lovely to meet her,it was the 1st time I had seen anyone else with BPES.Its so good to know that we are not the only ones with BPES.

I would love to catch up with any one who's up this way.

What type of surgery did your daughter have...folds??? My daughter

4yrs and Larissa 19 mths, both of who have BPES. I (Chris) also had

BPES when I was born. Jessie had her first operation about 12 months

ago will be having a second operation very soon.

I feel the same way about my daughter's sweet face. She is so

blepharophimosis, she also has congenital epiblepharon (her bottom

lashes roll in and rub against her eyes) which makes her eyes itch

and hurt all the time. It also makes her very sensitive to light.

Her ptosis is so sever that she has to tilt her head back to see.

So, she definitely has to have surgery. It is scheduled for

Friday. In addition to the usual worries about an operation, I'm

really concerned about how this is going to change her appearance.

She's so beautiful just the way she is. Sigh. We are going Tuesday

to have some professional pictures taken – the last of her little

face in its natural state. Boy, emotionally, I'm just all over the

place – worried, sad, and at the same time, thrilled to think that

her life is about to get so much easier! By this time next week,

she will be able to see and for the first time in her life, she

won't have eyelashes rubbing her eyes!

I have a feeling the next 4 days are going to be very, very long!

I'd have to ask my mum what surgeries I've had. I know I had two ops

but I was pretty young, so I don't remember much.

BPES runs in my family, my dad's side, my 5 yearold daughter hasn't got

BPES.
