The first surgery (for BPES) depends on whether an early ptosis sling

(allowing lids to open wider) is necessary or not, otherwise, the

canthoplasty (widening of eye opening) might be first. Or it might be

something else entirely, but those are the most common two.

Without the option to close? Nah. In some cases, the eyes don't always

fully close after a sling, but certainly not in all cases. Depends on a

number of factors, such as the severity of the ptosis, how much skin is

available, the skill (and luck) of the surgeon, time to settle, age, etc.

Hi My daughter is aged two years old and had the first surgery last September. The surgeon lifted the eyelids up enough so she could see properly but not too much and she can close her eyes when she sleeps etc so no worries there. Best wishes,
