Guest guest
Hi Everyone - In reading through the messages, looks like you all have a lot of experience on this topic. This is very brand-new to me and my family. I don't know anything about sling surgery, didn't hear about it until I was websurfing. My son is able to open his eyes, but only about half-way. Is sling surgery used when the child is unable to open at all? Thanks!
Guest guest
Hello, Sling surgery is used even when a child/person can open their eyes part way. It is important to consult with an eye doctor that is familiar with various eye syndromes that will refer you to a specialist in either occuplasty or opthalmic plastic surgery so that you can get the best, most current information to help evaluate and protect your child's vision. My daughter had sling surgery when she was very young. The blepharophimosis was affecting her general vision and even her peripheral vision was impacted greatly. Her eyes opened part way like an old fashioned roller shade. Since that surgery, she initially began wearing glasses, then needed bifocals at the age of 4 1/2. Currently she wears no-line bifocals to correct her vision which has not changed much over the past few years. sbfd9766 <sbfd9766@...> wrote: Hi Everyone - In reading through the messages, looks like you all have a lot of experience on this topic. His eyes have only ever opened under half way. He was born like this. His sight was severely restricted which is why the doctors choose to operate now, rather than the standard age of around 4 or 5. Find a good eye surgeon who will discuss all the options with you. Good luck. Cretemum x
