Guest guest
Hi Beth, Our son, Micah, had surgery when he was 2 yrs 10 months old. He had the slings and cantho surgery at the same time. (He has silicone slings just like your daughter.) You can see a close-up picture of his eyes 1 yr post-op under " Eisele Family " . For about 4 months after his surgery his incisions were pretty red, but then started to fade out. He just had his two year check-up on Friday and everything is great. Good luck with your little one! Guest guest
Hi Beth, Keep your daughters face covered with ice cold compresses round the clock, this will reduce swelling which in turn will reduce scarring. Don't count on the nurses to do it they don't have time. Also have your doctor order a pain killer BEFORE the surgery. This way if she wakes up and is in pain you don't have to wait for the nursing staff to track the doctor down to get pain med orders. Good luck. My 16 year old daughter has been through 7 surgeries and remembers nothing of the earlier ones. This is much harder on us parents than on the kids at this young age. Check out free AOL. Guest guest
The dr. said he would use some very small and fine stitches, and in a few weeks would remove them under local anesthesia, to give her the best possible outcome against scarring. Shouldn't these be very tiny, though. Her little nose is so small anyway... I have gotten used to her sweet face and finally the sling suture marks faded, I don't want more scars.. I know it can't be avoided. > > > > > Hi > > > > > > My 2.5 yr old is scheduled for canthioplasty this > > > friday. Guest guest
Hi Beth: Our 13 month old daughter will be having surgery on Friday as well to correct the entropion of her bottom left eyelid. This is her first surgery on her eyes (she has had other surgeries unrelated to BPES) so we are nervous. We'll be thinking of your daughter. Guest guest
Thanks for the message, I had a bit of a meltdown this AM. Having a hard time coping with work, the upcoming surgery, the insurance, doctor's office, it's just overwhelming for me sometimes. I so love her little face, I know she needs this procedure and it will help her and I want her to be able to see more, but it's just so very hard. I wish you luck, Lily had surgery as an infant and did just fine. Would love to know who your doc is if you are in DC. Ours is Dr.Gavaris. > > > > > > Hi > > > > > > My 2.5 yr old is scheduled for canthioplasty this friday. Guest guest
Hi Beth, The very best of luck with the surgery, I'll be thinking of you!!!! is back in with the surgeon tomorrow, two of the stitches haven't disolved that well and she has to see an Orthoptist, whatever they do!?! Please let me know how the op goes ... is canthioplasty the same as trans nasal wiring? Is it to widen the eye?? We are hoping to get a date to get 's eye's widened too, but our surgeon said we should wait, wait, wait until she is around 4 maybe, and even then, she wont do it, we have to find another surgeon! Anyways, please take pics before and after, and let us know how you get on! Take care, xx Kildare, Ireland blepharophimosis Re: canthioplasty this friday Thank you, she will come right home with us after the surgery. Guest guest
Sorry I have not checked in for while but Beth your senitments got me thinking. I am not sure what the canthiolplasty is but Rylee had a procedure done at 6 months which used silicone slings attached to her forehead muscles, made her new eye lids and really opened her eyes. But on the 19th of March she is scheduled to have the "flaps" removed and I am getting really nevious as it is really not going to improve her vision it is mostly for cosmetics. I too love her little face, she wears glasses so the flaps are almost unnoticable when she is wearing them. But I of course want to give her every opporunity in life and we currently have Childrens Hospital here in San Diego and they are by far the very best. Additionally we will be visiting the top Genetist here in San Diego in April and I plan to ask about the POF issue and when a parent should be concerned for their daughter. Well.. Thanks for listening, I actually feel alittle better just getting it out. Aimee San Diego bethgordon03 <bethgordon03@...> wrote: Thanks for the message, I had a bit of a meltdown this AM. Guest guest
the " flaps " removal is canthioplasty. I was very worried but now so glad we did it. I can only speak for myself, of course. But the dr. made her eyes so much wider and natural looking I am very impressed at the detailed work he did, I feel very reassured. she can see so much more and that is so important to us. Everyone will comment on how she looks, and that' s just one thing others will notice, I want her to see well. She said today on the phone to grandpa, " I am a little cranky but I trying, pap pap " she is too much. How old is your daugther now? Do you feel good about the surgeon you will use, seems Souther CA should have some great plastic surgeons. > > > > > > > > Hi > > > > > > > > My 2.5 yr old is scheduled for canthioplasty this friday. Guest guest
Beth Thanks for the post. She just turned 2 on Jan 3rd. The surgeon is her opthomalogist and the one you did the original surgery. We have every confidence in her. I guess I am just anxious.
