Guest guest
Hi Anne, I have spoken with Dr. Katowitz via email but he is not the one who did our sons surgery. He is highly regarded by our eye clinic where we live. I actually wanted to comment on swelling after sling surgery. Our son still has some minor swelling a couple of months after his surgery (although I didn't realize it at the time - looking back at pictures I can see it). I would say it took a good six months before his eyes seemed to " settle " into how they were going to look. He did have the YV Canthoplasty done at the same time as his slings. Praying all goes well for your little guy! From what we hear he is supposed to be very good. we have had good experiences w/ him and are pleased w/ his work. As far as the swelling---The majority of the swelling will be gone withing 3 weeks but even after that for the next couple of months you will see the eyelid continue to change and open up more as little bits of swelling continue to go down. The eyelid is a very sensitive area to operate on and there simply is alot of swelling after surgery. You need to prepare yourself to see this! Maybe my girl had more than normal but nobody prepared me for SEEING her post surgery! After the second day post surgery it will get a little better every day!! Best Wishes! Does anyone have any experience with Dr. Katowitz at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia? We are scheduled for surgery with Dr. Katowitz 10/4/07. I am also trying to gauge how long swelling takes to go down from sling surgery? I will be meeting with the dr again next week so I'm sure I'll get more information but I've always been impressed with the responses on the board as well. Thank you in advance for your guidance. --Anne Weber-- 's mom Hey Anne, I have a 17 year old daughter, , who has had 7 procedures. I always worried about her looks, she is really a beautiful girl ! (I am going to try and post some pics of her, under McGrath). The most important thing to minimize swelling is ICE. Keep several sterile gauze cloths soaked in ice bath, the nurses can provide this for you, and keep his eyes under the cold gauze changing them every 10-15 minutes. The nurses do not have time to do this around the clock and it will make a huge difference in the swelling if you can do it 's last procedure I stayed up for 36 hours and continued with keeping her face iced. Also get an order from the doctor for pain medication PRIOR to the surgery. That way if your son is uncomfortable you don't have to wait for the nurses to call the Dr. and get the order. Good Luck ! You will be amazed how easily the little ones get through all this. It is much harder on us parents. If you need any more info LMK Honacher North Carolina, had all her procedures done in NY,NY************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
