Guest guest
Hi I don’t if it helps to know this but a listed characteristic of BPES is having a high arched palate. I don’t know how many people have this, nor what effect it has on anything else. Perhaps a medic would know how to obtain further relevant info. My daughter had absolutely no problem with her Palate Expander or braces when she was 13 years old (they were put on at the same time). Her Orthodontist did remark that she had a very high palate, but had no problem fitting her for the device. My daughter never complained of discomfort from the expander, and it was actually removed 2 weeks earlier than anticipated (her palate widened quicker and easier than expected). > > _________________________________________________ > > Park yourself in front of a world of choices in > > alternative vehicles. Guest guest
my son has an expander he got this for mainly because he has to wear a head gear at night which latches on to it..... but his upper jaw needed to widen...., he has a severe under bite/ cross bite (lower teeth go over the bottom teeth) my son is almost 10 and he is the one in our family that has BPES, the ortho doctor said most likely his under bite was caused because of his cranial structure.. possibly from the BPES.... he seems fine and we are seeing improvements, this better work or they will have to break his jaw. everything has been fine and according to plan his ortho said just like any other patient....On 29-Aug-07, at 2:18 PM, dhaskins214 wrote:>> Hi,> > I was wondering if any of your children w/ BPES have> ever had a RPE or Rapid Palatal Expander placed for> othodontics? Guest guest
Good to know, thanks! Micah has a really high palate as well. My oldest daughter's face shape changed drastically with the expander so we were just wondering if it would have any ill effects for our son. Amazing your daughter had an expander at 13 - our orthodontist starts them at age 7! Thanks for your reply. Guest guest
Our daughter has the expander permanently bonded in as well. We turned it two times twice each day for about three weeks and then were done with the expanding part. The expander is just in there now to hold the space and so we can attach the headgear to it. We started out 14 hrs a day in headgear and now are doing 12 - 14. Her upper canines were blocked out by her laterals thus the expander. The headgear was because she is maxillary deficient (midface back further than lower jaw) and because she has a tongue thrust pushing the upper front teeth out. Now that her upper jaw is moving forward the upper front teeth are no longer protruding. She will get braces added to her upper front four teeth in a few weeks. This phase of orthodontics is supposed to last about a year and then she will go into retainers until all of her permanent teeth are in. I hear you on the cost! My husband said he knew having three in college at the same time was going to be expensive - we didn't think about orthodontics. --- Tonikka & <lyndenhunter@...> wrote: > thats sounds about right for lynden, he has his > expander 24hrs a day > (its bonded to his teeth) and has to wear his > headgear at night > between 12- 14 hrs we don't have to expand his > anymore right now, he > wears it to hold his head gear on.... i will take a > picture tonight > and put it in his albums ( lyndens photos) .... and > boy it was soooo > expensive..lol > > why is your daughter wearing one? > is she wearing head gear too? > On 29-Aug-07, at 7:13 PM, april Eisele wrote: > > > Thanks so much.
