So, I would definitely take Bipin to the doctor right away, as this may have happened to him. Dannah >
Guest guest
Hi Tessa May I recommend that you telephone Moorfields in the morning and try to speak to Mr Collin’s secretary. If you explain the circumstances I am sure you will get some assistance in getting an appointment. It may be that they suggest that you go to casualty. Good luck and keep us posted. Shireen London, England (ps – I’ve met Tessa and little Bipin, so she knows that I am not in the medical profession, just thought I should mention this for the benefit of others). From: blepharophimosis [mailto:blepharophimosis ] On Behalf Of tessa_mackenzie Sent: 01 July 2007 19:35 blepharophimosis Subject: blepharophimosis bump! could it have undone sling surgery?? Dear all our son Bipin is nearly 2 1/2 and had sling surgery 9 months ago. He fell over the other day and ever since his left eyelid looks as if it has returned to pre-surgery level. It didn't seem at the time that he done much damage - he yelled for a bit but there was no blood, not much of a bruise and he hasn't complained about it hurting since. I hoped that it was just swelling from the bump that was making his lid look droopy but it's been 3 days now and looks the same. I'll try and make an appointment at Moorfields tomorrow but I think it will take weeks to come through. Does anyone have any experience of this? Is it possible that the sling or stiches or whatever they are have come undone from the bump? Thanks! Tessa
Guest guest
Thanks so much Shireen and Dannah. After reading your message Dannah I was sure that the bump had undone the surgery somehow. I still am really. Bipin and I went to A & E at Moorfields today and he had all the usual tests and then we spoke to a doctor who was not one of Collin's team - they are not there on Tuesdays. He agreed that the lid had dropped but said that since it is still relatively soon after Bipin's fall it could still be due at least in part to some residual swelling. So he recommended coming back in a couple of weeks (after our holidays) to get him checked again by one of the adnexal(?) team and then they will decide about redoing the surgery. He seemed to think it was unlikely that the bump had caused the sling to come undone (or whatever the technical term would be..) but I'm pretty sure it has because his left eye looks exactly the same as before his surgery. On the one hand I'm dreading putting him through more surgery, but now that we've been through it once at least we know what we're in for! I know it was worse for us than for him last time and ultimately the operation was successful and if it means his sight will develop better then it has to be the right thing. So if we have to do it again I just hope the date comes through quite quickly to get it over and done with. Anyway thanks again for the responses. I'll keep you posted on developments. Guest guest
Your welcome, Tessa. I hope I didn't alarm you - I certainly didn't mean to but it's good that Bipin was seen by a doctor. I'm sure that even if the bump did result in something coming undone (I don't know the technical terms either) that it won't be a major thing to have it redone. I took a look at Bipin's pictures and he is a REAL CUTIE -- you are truly blessed! Thanks for keeping us posted. Guest guest
HI Tessa, I hope you don't mind me commenting on Bipin's fall, but our daughter had sling surgery and about 4 months later, ran into the dishwasher handle banging her one eye where the incision was above her eyebrow. This resulted in swelling and her eye looking like it dropped a bit(as if she never had surgery on that eye). We took her to Dr. katowitz in philadelphia, who did the surgery. It turns out she developed an infection in the incision that would not go away with medicine or surgery. We eventually, 2 surgeries later, removed the sling and are waiting to replace it with her own fascia. I feel with somewhat certainty that this came about from her fall. Though we will never know for sure, it seems the most logical explaination. Hope this is helpful information. Take care!
