Guest guest
hi there i am answering for another member of the group because she does not always read the forum, our close friends son had his done 3 times because they did not "take" however his recovery was great and his lids still looked the same, no problem whatsoever once all was said and done!!On 24-Jun-07, at 4:05 AM, lisa obrien wrote:Hi Everyone, had her silicone sling operation back in January, but one of the top incisions never fully closed up, it remained red with a black piece of like thread sticking out. At a checkup apointment last week, our surgeon advised that she is going to have to re-do the operation in a few months time. Has anyone had to have their operation re-done? Our surgeon is not overly keen to do it, as she said that the results are great of the frontalis lift, and she is concerned having to re-do it.. But we have to, as the remaining opening is causing to get low grade infections, so we need to get it fixed. Just wondering if this happened to anyone else that had the silicone slings done? Guest guest
Hi , Our son had his slings first in at 3 months, then redone at 9 months, then at 2 and 3 he had more surgery addressing sling issues (much like what you described - red bumps with the string exposed). Just from my experience, I would ask your surgeon if she thinks its possible your daughter may be rejecting the material used and if there may be a safer, more proven alternative (there are more than one silicone sling products out there). Our first doctor used a material for which happened to be sensitive (in hindsight). Because we didn't know this though, his second slings were redone with the same material, and his body kept reacting to it. He's had many, many " red bumps with string hanging out " . I'll spare more details, but his slings were basically rendered useless by all the infections by the time we figured all this out (took a few years). With all said and done, the slings and infections were cleaned out and in the past. His eyelids are holding up fine now (b/c the scar tissues along the sling tracks are performing the same function) and even with all his surgeries he has little noticeable scarring (you can see his pics with different surgeries under B.) I hope I didn't scare you and I debated on whether I should go into so much detail, but for myself, I wish I had raised more questions at the time of 's surgeries even if it wouldn't have changed the outcome. Good luck!
