" Donated " (sometimes called " banked " or " cadaveric " ) fascia lata is from

someone else's (usually dead) body. " Autogenous " fascia lata is from

one's own body. They are both effective, but doctors prefer to use the

patient's own if possible (can't remember why just now). There's little

risk of rejection for donated fascia lata because it's fairly inert

stuff. (Mine's been trouble-free for forty years.)

Fascia lata tissue is from a muscle in the thigh. A strip of it is used

to connect the eyelid to the frontalis (forehead) muscle. It runs

beneath the skin, from just above the brow, down and along the bottom of

the upper lid, then back up to the brow. Only sign is two or three small

incisions above each brow.

The trick is enabling the lid to lift enough for it to clear the pupil,

while still allowing it to close fully if possible.
