Guest guest
We had to re-do a single sling also... What happen to us is the sling which makes a triangle above the eye actually started falling down through the tissue. So, we had it re-done and it wasn't a big deal at all and its worked great for over a year and a half now. tawnya boulder, CO -------------- Original message -------------- From: "anrweber" <anrweber@...> Has anyone had a sling that has broken or dropped? had his sling surgery done on 11/26/2007 and suddenly his right eyelid has totally dropped. In the post-surgery pics and up until yesterday his right eyelid was the highest of the two lids. We live in Chicago but had the surgery done in Philadelphia at CHOP. I have e-mailed pics and gotten a response from his local dr and from Dr. Katowitz at CHOP. We are going in to see his local doctor this afternoon and I cannot speak to a surgical scheduler for Dr. Katowitz until Monday. My question to all of you whom this has happened to how did it happen? Did the sling break spontaneously? I realize that the slings always have a slight risk of coming undone but (to my knowledge) nothing happened to cause it to break (a fall, running into something). I was still living in the celebration mode of his 1st birthday and how well it seems that he can see (no more head tilting) and then b ang....we might be back having surgery again which I dread. Thank goodness for great doctors and advice from all of you....I need to gear myself up for his surgery quicker than I anticipated.I posted a picture with his right eyelid now drooping again today under . I truly appreciate the responses and any supportive information. --Anne Weber--Glen Ellyn, ILUSA
Guest guest
My daughter had to have one of her eyes "done" over after it appeared that the original surgery wasn't as "tight" as the other eye-they were symmetrical initially after the first surgery but then one seemed to "drop". That second lid lift surgery was done at least 15 years ago and both eyelids work well and the symmetry is still there after all this time. Hang in there. I know as a parent it is really rough thinking about the next possible surgery but kids are much more resilient than we could ever imagine. My thoughts are with your family. anrweber <anrweber@...> wrote: Has anyone had a sling that has broken or dropped? had his sling surgery done on 11/26/2007 and suddenly his right eyelid has totally dropped. Guest guest
My daughter also had surgery by Dr. Katowitz. Before the surgery, her eyes were even looking but after, the right eye was lifted more than the left eye. Then her left eye experienced a staph infection in the incision and the eye dropped. We had two surgeries to clean out the wound until we finally had to have an additional surgery to remove the sling. Her right eye has dropped since she has had the surgery. I would say it is moderately better at best, than before the surgery. Dr. Katowitz has now recommended redoing the surgery in both eyes using 's own fascia. My husband is hesitant because of the last problems we had. We had seen three other surgeons, one very well respected pstosis specialist who recommended to not do the surgery in the beginning. It is all so confusing but I felt we needed to do the surgery. Fortunately 's vision has not been compromised. Dr. Katowitz said that in his experience 's situation can happen but is not a likely outcome. He also had said that a sling can " drop " if the body rejects it or if there is trauma to the eye. did run into the dishwasher handle which in my opinion started the whole problem with her eye. The doctors did not believe this would contribute.
