Guest guest
Hello Rose, my 6 year old has a high palate and speech delays, pretty mild, getting speech at school, Since Bleph is a facial/cranial disorder I personally believe that the high palate may be another condition. I was wondering if this was also associated with Blephs, or is this another genetic, birth condition that is a sep. issue? Anyone care to Comment? Guest guest
Very interesting. She did fine in school--some reading comprehension problems, but her speech is fine now. Thanks for your response. Guest guest
I too have never heard of a speech delay being part of BPES, actually I was told opposite saying above average intelligence was connected...my son never has had anything of the sort.Lynden's doctor says he has yet to come across a BPES person with anything neurological that seems to be related to BPES.., however the study is on going of course.. He specializes in BPES here in canada and actually has made it part of his university course curriculum to teach students about BPES ..... which i think is so neat!!I think its just one of those many other things the average person is born with... Guest guest
i have two kids with bpes. my daghter who is six now had ten words at ten months. my son on the other hand is two and has recently started speech therapy. he had alot of ear infections and fluid in his ears which caused some hearing loss he now has tubes in and seems to be improving everyday.i really don't think that bpes caused his speech delay but i do think it helped the cause of the frequent ear infections because his ear nose and throat is so small due to bpes. nina mom to mallory & malachi from the bahamas > > > > > My husband nor my 2 boys with BLEP had speech delays. > > > > my 2nd grader has been an A student since Kindergarten and my 3 > > year old developed his speech at a very young age. > > > > Ive nerver heard that speech delay was a syptom of BLEP I hope you > > get more responses so that you can get some insight. > > > > Thanks for sharing > > > > Michel > > Phx AZ USA > > > > S. Guest guest
Hi Tonikka (and everyone), Recently Hayden was diagnosed with a mild case of Cerebral Palsey (Spastic Diplegia) on top of the already diagnosed BPES. Hayden was meeting all his physical developmental milestones till about age 2.5 when he began to walk on his toes because his leg muscles, especially his hamstrings, had become tight. He also had a speech delay. He only said a few words by age 2. However, since he's started speech therapy I am happy to say that it is improving tremendously, he's 3 now and is speaking in broken sentences and most of what he says is clear. When we saw a neurologist, (about 6 months ago), we received the tenative CP diagnosis, which we are still waiting for an MRI to confirm, it is scheduled for January. He is now in AFO's, Ankle Foot Orthotics, to help correct his walking and gait and physiotherapy is necessary. I would be very interested to find out more about any study connecting BPES with neurological disorders. We are still looking for answers to the CP question as Hayden's birth went wonderfully and he seemed fine for so long. I'd love to hear more about a connection since it is hard to believe that these are two separate and unfortunate problems that have happened to the same sweet little guy. Sheryl (Hayden's Mom) P.s. the bushy eyebrows emails are hilarious, I will have the wax-pot ready! Guest guest
Hi Sheryl,I have three boys 8,5,3. The oldest and the youngest have blep from there father. The only other medical condition they all have is Asthma and Eczyma (and bushy eyebrows lol cute). On another note my middle son that does not have blep was speech delayed....at 3 he barely started saying a few words... I was very concerned but immediately upon turning 5 he started speaking in full sentences. He started kindergaden and is doing great.Best Wishes and kisses to Hayden: Phoenix AZ Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with Nextel Direct ConnectFrom: Sheryl Kampen <sherylkampen@...>Date: Thu, 25 Sep 2008 23:56:43 -0400<blepharophimosis >Subject: RE: blepharophimosis Speech Delay Hi Tonikka (and everyone), Recently Hayden was diagnosed with a mild case of Cerebral Palsey (Spastic Diplegia) on top of the already diagnosed BPES.
