Guest guest
Hi, I just joined this group, went to chat room, was the only one there! haha! Well, am kind of used to talking to myself! haha. Anyway, I was wondering about this group... I was diagnosed 5 years ago, told there was no cure, and that they would just give me meds to help with pain. I was having none of that! No way was I going to let anything interfere with my life. For the first 4 years, I managed to pretty much ignore it, refused to accept that I had it, or work around it. But, denial only works for so long. Went to a rheumatologist about 6 months ago, got on meds, and have been steadily declining since then. I have been struggling with my job, which is very physical, and have been trying to find out if there are any programs out there to help with job re-training so that I might continue to work, just in a different field?? Thanks for any info you can give.
Guest guest
Check into vocational rehabilitation, it may be called something else in your area. They will retrain you.
Guest guest
When I was diagnosed, computers weren't quite as widespread as they are now<g>. Using the one at the medical school library was quite a treat. ----- Original Message ----- From: Harold Van Tuyl Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 9:53 PM Subject: Re: New member I searched by typing early treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in the address line of Internet Explorer and came up with a bunch of hits many of which are pushing a particular idea that is not generally accepted. I like one that has guidelines and has keys to show how credible various statements are and how firm the recommendations are (A is well documented, B is fairly well documented, and C is some documentation - but they use other terms to describe these ratings). http://www.sign.ac.uk/guidelines/fulltext/48/ Grandpavan1927 ----- Original Message ----- From: Hasenstab Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 4:33 PM Subject: Re: New member When I was first diagnosed, I spent days and days in the medical school library here, looking up all the research that I could find. That was about 9 or 10 years ago, and I can't cite the authors, but if you wanted to find it, I'm sure it's even more readily available now. That's why I opted to begin taking plaquenil even though I had only very mild symptoms at the time. ----- Original Message ----- From: mowthpeece@...
