Shirley,

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, I can relate. I too am trying to get

pregnant but have not had any success at all. I'm not sure exactly how PA

effects our ability to have a baby, but I think somehow it has too. I have

discuss with three of my dr's what I can take why trying to get pregnant and

while pregnant and they all say prednisone because it does not cross the

placenta, so thats what I'm on. I take 7mg every day and am trying to cut it

down to as low as possible. I wish I had more info for you. Do you have a

rheumatologist you are working with?

[ ] New to Group.

Hello Everyone,

I repleid to an e-mail yesterday and should have actually posted an

e-mail. I have a few questions. I was diagnosed with PA in August

2001. It started in my left index finger. In November I had a

really sore neck and it seemed to last for a few months. I saw a

rhuemy last March and he prescribed an anti-malarial drug. I was

going to start taking it but then read that it could really get the

psoraisis going. Is that true? Secondly, we are trying to get

pregnant. Had a miscarriage last November and then again this July.

Does anyone know of any problems conceiving with PA? I thought I

read somewhere that if may affect your pituatary gland or

hypothalamus. Doesn't that also have something to do with your

cycle?

Also, my right shoulder is sore to the touch. Can't even sleep on

that side and now my left shoulder is feeling tender as well. My

left ring and middle finger are also now feeling stiff and I can no

longer straighten my right elbow. Again, I am not taking any

medication but am worried that things are only going to get worse if

I don't start taking something. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks, Shirley.

Shirley,

Yes, it is definitely TRUE! Many years ago my old rheumy put my on

Plaquenil without warning me about any adverse side effects regarding

my Psoriasis. Within two days of starting it, little red spots of

Psoriasis popped up all over my body. I stopped the Plaquenil

immediately without checking with my rheumy. I then looked up

Plaquenil in the Physician's Desk Reference (PDR - everyone should

have a copy), and found that it clearly states that Plaquenil can

exacerbate Psoriasis symptoms. I chastised my rheumy rather severely

about it. Some of the spots have never gone away.

It doesn't cause problems for everyone however, and many here in this

group say they take Plaquenil without problems. If you decide to try

it, be on your guard for a psoriasis flare-up, and discontinue it

IMMEDIATELY if any symptoms appear.

-Hi Ron,

Thanks for the information. I believe the drug he prescibed is

chloroquine? Any experieince with that? Like I said I haven't been

treating the PA at this time but now my neck is sore again and i'm

getting worried.

Thanks.

[Moderator's note: Hi Shirley. Chloroquine is the generic form of Plaquenil.

--Hi ,

Thanks for the reply. I haven't been working with a rheumy since the

beginning of the year. He new I wanted to get pregnant and

prescribed Chloroquine (anti-malarial) but then I read it could

really flare up the psoraisis and decided not to take it. I haven't

been taking anything since then. I thought because I got pregnant the

first time that it wouldn't take this long to have a full term

pregnancy. That seems to be my first priority but lately as I

mentioned, I have some other fingers going numb and now I have a

stiff neck again. I'm hopeful I just pulled a muscle but I know last

time it lasted for months and it's just the worst thing.

Have you read any books on increasing fertility. I have a good one

called " Taking charge of yourfertility " . I started seeing a obgyn a

couple of months ago after my second miscarriage. He did a HSG test

yesterday to make sure my tubes are clear and they are. Do you chart

of take temps? I find that very helpful.

From what i've read on the internet it does seem like a lot of women

with PA have given birth so I am hopeful.

I like this web site. It's nice to see a reply to my questions.

Shirley,

Yes, I monitor my fertility with a clear plan easy fertility monitor. I feel

that I need to not only to increase my chances of getting pregnant, but with my

PA and the medications I am on, I want to know, to the day, when I become

pregnant. I have not read any books as of yet, but that is a good suggestion.

I have not had any tests done because I am trying not to obsess over getting

pregnant because they can mess everything up too, know what I mean? None of

this is going to be an issue for me by November as my husband and I are getting

ready to be separated for 6 months thanks to the Army, so if I'm not pregnant

before he goes, everything is on hold till he gets back.

Hi Shirley,

I've posted this before but you may not have seen it. I also have had PA

for years and I have four children. My flares calmed while I was pregnant

and flared after I had the babies. I don't know of any problems with

pregnancies due to PA, but thought maybe this would be an encouragement to

you. Good Luck!

HI ,

I hope things work out before your husband has to leave. I found the

book beneficial as it spells everything out for you. Some things I

had not heard before and found useful.

Take care,

Shirley.

Hi ,

WELCOME to the group!

I can tell you that I have AS (mom) and I wonder about my husband,

though I haven't the energy to really focus my attention and studying

on him yet. My mom says that My birthfather DEFINITELY has it, now

that she has educated herself on it!

I would LOVE to hear all about your husband, if you don't mind

sharing. (I love comparing notes)

I think we may find genetics will have a strong link eventually.

Enjoy the group!!!

Welcome ! Lots of wonderful people here and I hope that you will

learn lots of insightful ideas, receive understanding ears, and be

inspired with innovative plans from the members. Scroll through past

messages and use the 'search bar' if you care to look for anything in

particular. I have read others' stories of having spouses and other

relatives diagnosed/suspected of having AS and I am sure they will

jump in and post when they have time to spare. If you have questions,

ask away!

All the best,

Velvet (son age 9 - currently diagnosed ADHD with Aspergers suspected)

I can't remember if I answered this already... senior moment! Anyway,

I was very much like my son, who has hugh-functioning autism. I have

no idea if I would have been diagnosible or not, but I am definitely

on the cup of AS, if not over it.

Hi All,

My name is Ileana and I am new to this group. I have two children with

eyelids to lift them up a little more. My son 8y/o has not had surgery

yet.

I have uploaded some pictures for you all to see under "
