Hello,

I am on steroids and a lot of other “junk” J for

my rheumatoid arthritis and I get vertigo. My doctor had originally

diagnosed it as an inflammation of the nerve that runs from the ear to the

brain. Now that I hear everyone else….hmmmmm….who knows….I

take 25mg of meclizine 3 times a day when I have it.

I have had vertigo on/off over the years but I noticed it recurred

when I got RA. I assumed it was a side affect of the medication

(Methotrexate, Plaquenil, Darvocet, Medrol & Ansaid), as these are

very powerful drugs. Eventually, the vertigo eased off.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but I didn't want to mention it

to my doctor. The reason is because, I hate going through a battery

of tests only to be told there's nothing wrong. I know! Spank me

with a wet noodle but that's how I felt about it. I know that all of

you understand that it's not easy running here & there when you're in

a lot of pain, even when I have someone to drive me places on really

bad days. Some days I have to muster the energy to get to & from

work.

In November, my Rheumatologist took me off of Ansaid, replacing it

with Vioxx. I'm not sure if it's working any better. All I know for

sure is that it's a bigger copayment ($45) than the (generic) Ansaid

($10). That's almost like not having insurance! I'm going to have

to ask my doctor for samples or I'll have to go on something that's

on my (lovely!) HMO's formulary. In addition to the (5) drugs I'm on

(4) medications for my asthma - 2 of which I take on an as needed

basis, so they're not refilled each month & of course, birth control

pills. Those copayments add up rather quickly.

Hello Barbara, I found your reply to so right on target. I really

appreciate your writing to me. I can certainly relate to your

feelings about not telling your doctor. I have been going through

this conflict for the exact same reasons. I decided to tell him this

Wed. and hope that he will be able to respond to it without tests and

referrals. I wonder if this neurological aspect relates to the fact

that I also have neuropathy in my feet. It is all so annoying,

aggravating, and depressing. I am still quite new to RA so I have

many paths to walk until I have a clue how this illness plays out for

me. Thanks again and Happy New Year! Maxine
