Guest guest
Our daughter just had her 3rd surgery for BLP on last Thursday. She is healing nicely except she has developed a small pimple at each stitch in the corner of the eye. We were in to see Dr. Katowitz today and the nurse said it is a reaction to the stitch. We are very concerned because this happened with her surgery at 3 months old and it became a constant oozing infection until another surgery at 6 months. I hope it will clear up. For now we were recommended to use hot compresses and the antibiotic ointment. So, has this happened to anyone and do you have any advice???????? Thank-you. Guest guest
Hi Jane,I am sorry to hear your daughter is having problems after the surgery. My daughter had a pus like pimple at the suture point above her brow. Dr. Katowitz tried cleaning it out and we used antibiotic ointment for a few months but ended up having to take the sling out. They say having a reaction to the sutures and or material used isn't that uncommon. Hopefully it will clear up for her.Best,Nina AsadoorianOn Jan 26, 2009, at 8:00 PM, jane wrote:Our daughter just had her 3rd surgery for BLP on last Thursday. Guest guest
Hi Jane, Our daughter had a bad reaction to the self-resorbable stitches after her epicanthic surgery one year ago in London. The stitches got infected and did not dissolve; they had to be pulled after 10 weeks and treated with antibiotic ointment. She still has a very visible bump on her left eyelid and the epicanthal scars are worse than they would have been without infection. Dr. Collin said that some patients react like this to self- resorbable material which is commonly used for stitches and he is not happy with the result either.
