My 20 year old had the surgery over 12 years ago and she does have one eye that droops more than the other. Also, she has to use a sleep mask so light won't affect her. But, she really doesn't want to go back through corrective surgery at this time. I wonder if this can be corrected at any time in her life? Anyone in the group care to comment?

blepharophimosis Eyelid Surgery...

Hi everyone,I posted awhile ago talking about how I had realised that there weretwo different procedures for the eylid lift. The first, using tendonfrom the leg, and the 2nd shortening of the muscle already in thelid.I also said that I was hoping that my daughter Jess could have the2nd option, as it seemed a better option....We spoke to Jessie'sspecialists and now I understand why they have never mentioned the 2ndoption to us.Apparently, if she was able to lift her lid (naturallywithout any surgery) 5mms they would be able to just shorten themuscle in the lid, but as she can only lift her lids 3.5mms they haveto use the tendon in the leg, and go with the sling procedure, as hermuscle thats there just isnt strong enough and her case too severe tobe able to go the other option.Ahhh the difference 1.5mms makes hey!!!Anyway I just thought I would share this with you.Regards,Machaela

there is a 3rd option that is quite popular too... using a silicone rod/sling instead of the "tendon in the leg" (fascia lata) as for the difference 1.5 mm makes, lol my son has had 7 surgeries and his left eye is still lower then his right due to the slight "tightness and rigidity " in his left lidgood luck in all the decisions you and your doctors make, hope all goes well when the surgery time rolls around.. Hello,

Thank you for your message. The procedures that doctors can perform continue to amaze me. Continuing to ask questions as your beautiful daughter, Jess, grows up will remain an important piece of getting the proper care and support through the various stages of normal growth in addition to some of the more specialized needs our daughters with BLEP may have as they grow into young women.

Take care.

Hello,

My nineteen year old daughter had her lid surgeries about 16 years ago. After her first surgeries, we had to schedule a repeat surgery for one of her eyes due to the fact that it drooped more than the other one. The same surgeon performed the repeat surgery and at this time things continue to look symmetrical for her eyelids. Every year when she has her vision check up, they also do a measurement to verify that her eyelids are "staying in place".

Your daughter's vision is an important thing to protect. I hope that she consults with her doctor regarding her drooping eyelid so that she can make the best decision possible regarding surgery.

Best regards.
