Guest guest
HiGrace, who is 4, is having problems with her speech. She has been discharged from speech therapy as she is saying nearly all of her sounds coreectly but is having problems with a nasal tone. We went to see the cleft palette team today. She has not got a cleft palette but the nasal tone also affects children with that condition. On examination they seem to feel that her palette is formed correctly. They are unsure as to whether her muscles, which close the passage to her nose, are in the correct place or that they are working correctly. We are now waiting for an appointment for a video x ray which should show if the muscles are working. They mentioned that they have been involved with 2 other children who have BPES and have found that their muscles were in the correct place but were not working effectively. They have said that Grace may need surgery, to improve the muscle control to close the passage way to her nose, to help lessen the nasal tone.Has anyone else experienced these issues. ThanksNicola and Grace Bradford, England.
