OOPS, hit enter instead of tab and just sent the subject line -- sorry.

Anyway, has that petechiae-looking rash on her shoulders AGAIN. It

looks like pinpoint spots of blood under the skin that do not blanch. Nothing

on the surface, not raised or anything like that. This happened last week and

they did a CBC to look at platelets which were fine, but I wanted to see the

white count, which the test messed up and didn't report.

Last time she was just finishing up her sinus infection, she had been to the

public pool a couple days earlier, had been to gymnastics class several days

prior if I remember the timeline correctly. She was behaving terribly the day

they showed up, tantrums and such, and I figured she must be coming down with

something. The doc decided it was some nonspecific virus. The rash and

behavior went away within three days or so. She was on Omnicef at the time,

and actually today is day 24 of Omnicef for that sinus infection and the last

day.

Today she had tantrums all blessed morning and she has those spots again. On

her shoulders, in front and back of her shoulders. We went to the pool

Saturday and yesterday, and gymnastics is every Tuesday.

I felt pretty confident about this pool being safe, it's not too warm, you

can smell the chlorine, looks very clean and clear and the kiddie area water

is thankfully mixed with the entire rest of the huge pool, so it's not a

small concentrated area of kid water. Which is good because those stupid

Huggies Swimmers or whatever that everybody uses (we do too) are WORTHLESS.

's always has pool water inside it when we're done. That obviously means

if water can get in, stuff can get OUT too!!! Sheesh.

She was acting sick last Friday and had a low-grade fever, but nothing came

of that.

Any thoughts at all? I'll call the ped but everything is so nebulous, I don't

know what he can possibly tell me.

(mom to , age 3. Currently has polysaccharide antibody def,

previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell & other defs)

Another thing to think about: gets the same thing after he has been

in the grass. Has been playing in the grass? The spots disappear

after a few hours.

,

Grace can have tantrums that are so bad that she will get those spots from

breaking small blood vessels in her face and upper chest etc. She gets that

upset. Just a thought.

Yes, this can happen when they throw tantrums and cry a lot. My boys have

gotten them before on their faces...

-- Re: Mysterious un- " petechiae "

You know, my Sami that does not have immune problems, used to get those

petechiae spots when she threw temper tantrums. Anytime she cried hard

she'd break out on her neck and shoulders, sometimes her face.

Apparently that is common. Kody got them recently on his chin, for no

reason (he hadn't had any screaming fits) and the doctor did say that if

he got more to bring him in, but he didn't seem too concerned. I looked

up petechiae on the internet, and found out that it can be a symptom of

not so good things, but that if the platelets are fine then it is

nothing to worry about. If her platelets were low then it would be cause

for more concern. Some kids especially kids with fair skin just do that

from time to time.
