Guest guest
Today was nice and warm, and I had to run some errands. After running my errands, I decided to take my girls to the park. It's a park we go to every 3 weeks or so, on the days when I have to pick my husband up from work. Both my girls took off running as soon as I opened the car door. Immediately, Novaleigh began playing with all the other kids. Catalina on the otherhand, came to a dead stop right in the center and just watched. I noticed 2 of the other moms there kind of staring at her and whispering in slightly hushed tones. Then they walked up and started talking to her. Not in the mood to answer the questions that usually follow in those situations, I quickly shuffled her off to go play on the slides. After a few trips down the slides with her, my older daughter runs by me, followed closely by a little boy. I had been watching them play together for a while, but I hadn't really payed attention to the boy himself. As they ran by a second time, the little boy stopped and looked at me. I was amazed. He had BPES too. Suddenly, I realized why the other 2 moms were so interested in Catalina. It was almost time for us to leave and it was getting dark. I noticed they were getting ready to leave too, so I decided to go over and say hi before they left. We made our introductions, and I found out that they don't even live in the town we were in. We didn't live in that town either, but my husband works there. As it turns out, we see the same doctor. I'm not so much amazed that he had BPES. I guess I'm more amazed to just randomly, playing in a park we go to at least once or twice a month, and have been going to for a while, find another child with BPES. It's just not that common. And as it turns out, they have been going to that same park for a while and about as often, when they come out to visit family in the neighbourhood. I guess we just kept missing each other. And to think, if I hadn't stopped to actually look at the little boy, I might have missed him completely. P.S. I told them about this group and all the nice people here. I gave her my email address. Hopefully they will be joining us soon!
