My son (7) also has unequal vision, we patched a lot, though not as much as we were supposed to. He still has unequal vision. Dr. Campolataro in NY feels that patching after 7 doesn't have much affect but the optometrist feels differently. I think it cant hurt. To make the patching more bearable we decorated each one each day. Also we bought a patch online that fits right on his glassed not on his skin.

After my last post and making an appointment for Todd to go to Moorfields this is the latest. At Moorfields everything went well, they were happy with his vision - panic over - and just gave him a new prescription, and see you in a year. We took him back to the local hospital with this information expecting to get discharged basically. However yet again his vision was not equal in both eyes - so we are all a bit confused. The local hospital want to keep seeing him between going to Moorfields annually and are now getting him to wear a patch over the apparently stronger eye for a couple of hours a day. I have no idea where this is going or if this will have any effect, and I would love to know why he can see equally in London but in Kent can't! I am confused, frustrated and unsure if I am doing the right thing? Will a patch work, or will that eye always want to be less involved as its lid has always been slightly lower? Hi Caroline

My daughter Holly, aged 5, had to have patching last year advised by Moorfields due to a lazy eye. Due to the long distance from home we were also seen locally more often in-between Moorfields appointments and I must admit the results were pretty similiar. The only thing I will say is Holly would sometimes perform better with a certain person doing the test or also depends on the time the test was done. I wouldn't worry too much but it may be worth mentioning to your local practice that Moorfields had a different outcome. It could be that there isn't too much diffrerence but your local hospital want to be extra cautious. If you don't get the answers you need I would also contact Moorfields and speak to one of the guys who perfom the eye tests to read the notes and offer their opinion.

Let me know how you get on.

All the best
