The wire is passed through around said tendons and then passed through the nasal cavity to the other side, where it is connected to the opposite tendon in a similar fashion. The wire is tightened and effectively brings the inner angles of the eye on each side closer together. The outcome can be a little unpredictable in some cases. Not that many people have had it done as it doesn't need to be done too often, as the distance between the inner angles of the eyes is usually not so great, but it certainly is done and has been done on BPES patients treated at Moorfields (and elsewhere, of course!). I'm afraid I can't easily find an image of the procedure to send you, mainly because of copyright rules, but you could find it in a text book of oculoplastic surgery if necessary. You are absolutely right not to try to give medical advice - it can be a complicated area, so others are best referred to their own doctor +/- an oculoplastic or plastic surgeon. Guest guest
Pinar, My daughter had the transnasel wiring done last year, by Dr Katowitz in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Since her surgery she has developed so fast and is now on track for school! Since her surgery I was able to see that her eye condition had affected her developementally, before surgery she couldn't run like a normal child, nor could she stay focused on one thing at a time. When she had her surgery they also placed a sling in each eye as well to help open them further. I will attach picture of before and after. Also, because of the wires she was unable to wear her glasses for about 2 weeks, she complained they made her nose hurt. Guest guest
I had transnasal wiring done when I was 6 years old (now 34) by Dr. Callahan Sr in Birmingham, AL and ptosis slings several tims until ligament was used when I was 22. My husband and I are currently looking for a dr. to do it for my daughter. Have been pleased with the results, but recommend finding a dr who has done it before. > > Hi, > > My son Poyraz has BPES and we went to several dr.s.One of them wants to do an > operation with wires(unseen). This will make two eyes come closer and larger.Has > anyone heard about this operation? > > Thank you, > > Pinar & Poyraz(from Turkey Istanbul) >
Guest guest
Hi Pinar & Poyraz! I'm not much help but, I did have this surgery in the late 1970's early 1980's (I don't have many details on my surgeries as they were so long ago & records have been destroyed). I had my surgeries at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital in NY, USA. I have pictures in the Photo files here on under Tots. I am very happy with the surgeries I've had. I also know that technology & techniques have come a long way since I've received care. I wish you all the best!!!
