Her previous surgeon did a good job but the slings have dropped and he won't do the XY proceedure. If not NY, I am willing to go anywhere on the east coast of the USA. She's in kindergarten now and starts 1st grade in Sept 2011 - I would like to have this done asap because the kids are starting to tease and she struggles to see well! Its always comforting to know you (we) all are still communicating on this site! I hope the group continues to stay strong it is SO helpful, but I wish e had a doctor database for searches like mine.Thank you :)KIM HOLMESkimholmes2005@... Guest guest
Hi Kim, I was the one who wrote about a surgeon in NYC. Dr. Lisman was wonderful and I recommend him highly. He is a magnet for BPES cases and has much experience. When was diagnosed at birth we took her to several surgeons in CT but did not feel any of them had the experience needed. I got to the point where I opened the phonebook and started calling every plastic surgeon in the state looking for someone who could refer us to someone who was familiar with BPES. This is how I found Dr. Lisman. We lived in Connecticut at the time of my daughters surgeries, the first at 7 months. She had a very severe case and we are very happy with the results after about 7 procedures. Her name is McGrath and is now 20 years old. If you do see him please tell him we referred you and is doing well and is a fabulous artist. also had a procedure done by Dr. McCarthy, who is a plastic surgeon. Please call me if I can be of any help. 336-420-3101 Honacher D. Lisman M.D. ph G. Mc Carthy M.D. In a message dated 2/4/2011 2:57:45 P.M. Guest guest
I just wanted to give you the surgeon we have used for our daughter he is in Philadelphia PA a Dr Katowitz with Childrens hospital, He is excellent we travelled from ohio to see him and will be going back at the end of march for a second and last surgery! He is also the only Dr in the U.S. that can do testing on the type of BPES all though it may not be conclusive. He is excellent let me know if you want his number or pics of our daughter he did a great job and we have had no problems with the surgery failing. also they a have Mc house that we have been able to stay in which has helped with the cost.
