Guest guest
We do not have any insurance problems because all medical procedures etc are covered by provincial healthcare here in Canada, however we have some BPES friends in the USA, they too had insurance closing the door, their surgeon wrote a letter to the insurance company, they had surgery a week later. here is a partial edited copy of it I currently see xyz child and this child has been seen in my practice since 2005, this said child has a genetic defect called Blepharophimosis Ptosis Epicanthus Inversus, this is not a cosmetic defect but a genetic mutation within the childs DNA,This genetic disorder can be pretty severe if left untreated with surgery. This said child has 87% of their vision obstructed by their upper eyelids and no eyelid muscle to lift the lids out of their vision. If this said child does NOT receive surgery within the next 6 months their vision will be altered, the altered vision is not repairable but it is preventable. This said child will then be dealing with a lifetime of legal blindness and complete vision problems. This to me will take up more insurance funds then a simple brow suspension surgery that will prevent many problems sooner than later in life. etc... etc.... It is usually the sling surgery first, but circumstances are different with each case. > > > The problem we are having is my son's insurance company is trying to refuse the surgery and saying it is only cosmetic. We are prepared to go to the state insurance board, if necessary. Has your insurance given you any trouble about covering the procedure?? > > Has anyone else had troubles with insurance?? Shireen has anyone else had to deal with this lack of knowledge and understanding of this condition?? > > Grandma Aggie (Janel) > > > > > > > Trying to join group... > > > I am trying to join the group Blepharophimosis and have been waiting a few days now for a response. Both of my daughters and my husband have BPES and we are currently at the point were our daughter has to undergo surgery and I would be really grateful to be accepted into the group. Is there any way to expedite the process of being added to the group? > Hayley >
