Guest guest
Hi Sara... I think many people think of Minneapolis as the most fertile training ground for scoliosis surgeons in the US. Dr. Moe, who was trained by Dr. Harrington, and is one of the pioneers in scoliosis surgery, was in Minneapolis and trained doctors like Lonstein, Winter, Mike LaGrone and Bradford. And, thanks to the Minneapolis pioneers, and their fellows who have trained many new doctors, there are great scoliosis specialists all over the country. It's certainly true that there are a lot of specialists in the areas that Jacquie mentioned, but there are many other areas that are home to some of the best surgeons in the country. Guest guest
We go to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. 's surgeon is Dr. Hui who has done an amazing job and the care we have gotten there from day 1 has been above and beyond! She has told us that they see multiple cases of BPES there every year. I have some before and after pictures of on the website under " (Florida). He had his surgery at 6 1/2 weeks-he's now 5 months and the results are still beautiful (can hardly even see a scar unless you are really looking for one). Good Luck! Guest guest
We see Dr. Katowitz at CHOP of Philadelphia. Dr. Katowitz did 's surgery at 10 months of age. Dr. Katowitz's son has now also joined his practice at CHOP. We have not met with the younger Dr. Katowitz yet. is now 3 and we follow-up regularly with our Dr. here in Chicago for regular eye exams. We are planning to follow-up again and see Dr. Katowitz this summer. We have been very happy with Dr. Katowitz and he has operated on several members of this group. 's pictures are also on the site under . Dr. Katowitz has many BPES patients and CHOP is one of the only places in the United States that can perform the genetic testing (we have not had this done) for BPES. Ok, that was my endorsement for Dr. Katowitz, if you have more specific questions, I would be happy to try to answer them based on our experience. --Anne Weber--Chicago, IL, USA From: Heidi Dembowski <heididembowski@...>blepharophimosis Sent: Thu, May 20, 2010 11:51:08 AMSubject: Re: blepharophimosis Specialists We go to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. Guest guest
I live in Houston, Texas and am seeing Dr. Hyde for my 12 month old son. Has anyone heard good things about anyone close to me, we are willing to travel, but would love to find someone close-ish. He hasn't had any surgeries yet, but his doctor is wanting to do an lift that would keep his eyes perminently open. Is this common, my husband and I are still a bit overwhelmed by the idea that there are mulitple surgeries ahead of him and what so badly to make the right choices for him.--Amber > > > > > > > > We see Dr. Katowitz at CHOP of Philadelphia. We live in Albany NY and have family in NYC so this just may be exactly what we've been looking for! Our daughter McKenzie Joy is 5 and needs more surgery (our doc up here won't do any more).
