Guest guest
Welcome to the site Josue! The site is a self - help site. You ask the questions about information that you are currently studying that you do not understand AFTER you have asked/discussed them with your teacher and still do not understand. Other members who are not in a school program will study the info in study guide books, tutorials and information on this site and if they a still do not understand then you ask your questions. You are welcome to do this also. There will be a TEXPERT to help you to understand once you post what you do understand, what you don't undersand and what your question is. This site has many links, tutorials and documents to help you with your study, understanding and becoming a better tech. However when you say you are ready to be helped I want to be sure that you understand how this site helps and can help you. Try the study plan or use what ever tutorials are on the same subject that your instructor is using. Please pass on the following to Ms Barta: Dear Ms Barta, It may help your students if you were to survey the site's available info and direct them to areas that follow along with your specific lectures. Of course if you prefer they can use and browse the site at their leisure. I am not sure if all of the students realize that they will have to navigate by themselves. Glad the site is of help to you and your students. IF you need anything that you can not find, just ask and I will point you in the right direction or find information on it if I do not have it. Guest guest
How old is your daughter? What treatment did they start her on? My 10 yr old son has his first rheumatology appt on Monday. I have RA so I know what types of meds are out there, but I don't know if they treat JRA the same way. > > Hey everyone I am looking for a support group for parents of children > of JRA. Guest guest
Welcome to the group... Is your son seeing a pediatric rheumatologist? If one is availiable this is the best option as JRA is often treated very similarly to RA however the doses and disease presentation is much more different in kids. Becuase there are different types and depending on what joints are involved and labwork, the treatment can vary. Your knowledge of RA will probably help since you can understand more of what he is going through but one good place for basic information on JRA is the arthritis foundation at www.arthritis.org Often kids are started out on NSAIDS like Naporosyn and other ones like in most cases with adult RA but of course it depends on how much involvement there is of the body. Guest guest
ABI IS 3 AND WAS FIRST DIAG WITH POLY JRA AND THEN THEY SAID THAT SHE HAS SYSTEMIC JRA. NOT SURE THE BIG DIFFERNCE WITH THE 2. SHE HAS HAD HER JOINTS INJECTED WITH STEROIDS A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. IT HAS SEEMED TO HELP A LITTLE BIT. SHE AT LEAST CAN WALK IN THE MORNING INSTEAD OF CRAWLING. SHE IS NOW ON MOTRIN 2 TIMES A DAY. THE NAPROSYN MADE HER VERY SICK TO HER STOMACH. WE GO BACK TO CHAPEL HILL IN A MONTH AND THEN SHE WILL START ON MTX. IT IS A 3 HOUR DRIVE TO GET TO THE CLOSEST DOC. Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome. saw the pediatric rheumatologist on Monday for the first time. She ran the normal blood tests and did an x-ray to check his bone age (he is very small for his age). He started taking Naproxen 2x daily and will re-check in a month. She was hesitant to make a diagnosis because he doesn't have swelling in his joints, but that is also how my RA is. His dr. wanted to look at my blood tests to see if his would be similar. I don't really care at this point what they call it as long as he is treated. Mistique Re: Re: Hey Welcome to the group... Is your son seeing a pediatric rheumatologist? Guest guest
has complained of a stomach ache after taking his Naproxen also. He has only taken a few dosages so we will see how it goes. We've been expecting the rollor coaster ride because that is what I still go through with my RA meds and I've been diagnosed for 4 years. I guess I'm lucky that we have a pediactric rheumatologist in the neighboring city only 15 minutes away. Do you know how common it is to outgrow the JRA? Guest guest
I would like to say, that Dr. Gewanter says he does not like to use the word remission. I would like to say Aubrey has been under medical control for 3 years/ January we went and took Aubrey off all JRA meds we are currently without flare Dr did of course. We go back to eye doc and joint doc in a few weeks. I am stressed but doing ok. I am going to ask after a few years if we make it that long. If this is Juvenile Arthritis and we have not a flare in years what is the way to get her cleared so she will be able to get insurance without that attached. I tried to get secondary insurance and they would not touch her. Just a thought. I hope all the kids on this board have remission. I personally will say they are some tough kids who go through alot for their small ages....Terri and Aubrey Re: Re: Hey ABI IS 3 AND WAS FIRST DIAG WITH POLY JRA AND THEN THEY SAID THAT SHE HAS SYSTEMIC JRA. Guest guest
Just a quick suggestion as to Abi waking up in such pain, have you tried giving her warm baths in the morning when she gets up? Placing her in the warm water and then just letting her play and gently move her joints in the warm water may help. used to need to do this when he was first diagnosed for his ankles. We would soak them in a small tub of warm water and he would gently rotate the ankles to help his motion. What other meds is she on beyond just Motrin? She sounds like she could use a DMARD to help get the disease under control, rather than just an anti-inflammatory to control the swelling/pain. What does the rheumy suggest? Good luck, Michele ( 20, spondy) ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of gina zimmerman Sent: Wednesday, April 02, 2008 8:17 AM Subject: Re: Re: Hey I HAVE NO IDEA HOW COMMON IT IS FOR KIDS TO OUTGROW RA. Guest guest
My son Will (9) takes a tablet of Pepcid with any dose of Naproxen. You might want to check with your doc about adding an antacid. Naproxen can be hard on the lining of the stomach. Re: Re: Hey ABI IS 3 AND WAS FIRST DIAG WITH POLY JRA AND THEN THEY SAID THAT SHE HAS SYSTEMIC JRA. SO NEEDLESS TO SAY IT HAS BEEN A ROLLER COASTER SINCE WE FOUND OUT. Issadora <FlyfreeIzzie@ gmail.com> wrote: Welcome to the group... Is your son seeing a pediatric rheumatologist? If one is availiable this is the best option as JRA is often treated very similarly to RA however the doses and disease presentation is much more different in kids. Becuase there are different types and depending on what joints are involved and labwork, the treatment can vary. Your knowledge of RA will probably help since you can understand more of what he is going through but one good place for basic information on JRA is the arthritis foundation at www.arthritis. org Often kids are started out on NSAIDS like Naporosyn and other ones like in most cases with adult RA but of course it depends on how much involvement there is of the body. Guest guest
Hi Barb good to hear from you , it was rude of me not to say hello to everyone in my last post , I was in a hurry so that's my excuse...Yes cure is a big word with both yeast and Lyme , don't like to mention it too often just in case .know what I mean ....But life is so sweet now , not enough hours in the day. After so long being dependent on bacterial antibiotics it seems quite strange that I don't need to consider them now . I am still involved in getting my new concept probiotic to market ..I've given up on the academics , I did hope I could get a university to take it on as a project but you wouldn't believe the politics ..Anyway I have managed to get an audience with some top government scientists with an interest in the bio-tech industry who were impressed and are actively trying to broker a deal with companies with an interest in bio -tech, next meeting is in a couple of weeks with experts both sides ready for my presentation.. wish me luck ..Bit disappointed with progress with the parents of autistic children , I did hope I could galvanise them into action , but the truth is they just don't get the issues involved , sad ..anyway glad to hear your still well . i'll keep you and all posted on events ...cheers .. Guest guest
, I've seen a lot of opinions about this job you are considering. It sounds great listening to you talk about the experience you will get from it, a once in a lifetime job offer kinda deal eh? Anyways my one and only question is, Will you have enough spoons left at the end of the day for your family?  Bama,  The dog has seldom been successful in pulling man up to its level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his.
