Guest guest
Can you/have you had him evaluated for schizophrenia/bi-polar disorder? ASD and schizophrenia are supposed to be mutually exclusive but I often read that is not the case. My 8 y.o. son is an Aspie but his dad is schizophrenic so perhaps I'm overly worried but when my boy started hearing things a year ago I wondered (not the first time). We're currently on waiting list with KKI...... Where do you live? Does he have a DAN? If none available perhaps you could have him seen by a practitioner of functional of integrative medicine? It is quite possible that there is a bio basis for what is causing these new behaviors, the labs can help determine that. > > Hello, my name is Jenni. Guest guest
Welcome back, It sounds like Andy has it relatively mil and you have a very active life with the kids activities. When Andy goes on Prednisone for his flares, how high of a dose and for how long does he stay there before tapering? Is Andy on anything else for the pain when he flares? What things does Andy get when he flares, fevers, arthritis, fatigue? I am in SE PA outside of Philly near Pottstown and I work in Trooper. Tom > > Hi. Our names are Nannette and Andy Halliwell. Guest guest
I think Andy started at 80 mgs of predisone. I think he was on that for at least for a month before they started to drop down. He wasn't on any pain med at the times. When he flares, he gets the fever, the rash, the fatigue and the joint pain. We are very fortunate that he does have a mild version of it compared to many people. I was curious if that is because he first got it as a child? Do adult onsets have worse cases than child onset? Guest guest
Dear Nannette, I don't know if the adult onset is worse than the children's form or not. I do know that my onset was at 19 years old and very severe and took several years before beginning to go into remission with medications. My hopes for Andy will be a sooner remission from the fevers and joint pain and swelling. Guest guest
Dear Nannette,First of all welcome back.I'm sort of falling down on the job in not welcoming you sooner.I've been at my sister's with a virus, but now that is clearing up and I just want to get back on my shots. My joint pain is incredible right now.Anyway back to your question. My youngest sister got jra at age eight and was pretty sick, but she outgrew it when she reached puberty.I do remember frequent hospitalizations though and much pain.I didn't get it until I was 42 and if anyone asks me it was far worse than hers.Hope this helps a little. love Elly _____ On Behalf Of Nannette Halliwell Subject: Re: Re: intro ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _ Need a Domain Name? Guest guest
What are Andy's symptoms like now when he's not flaring? I'm very new to all this, and still trying to figure out what the future's going to hold for me, so I love to hear stories of 'almost normal' days. Prednisone worked great for me too, but weaning off it was not so great. They are trying me on methotrexate right now, which is nauseating me, making my hair fall out, and not helping the joint pain... yet. I'm trying to be patient, but hurry up and work! lol Anyway, welcome back.

Guest guest
Andy is probably not a typical Still's patient. We have been so blessed that he has had only two true flares and those were 25 yrs in between. He also responses so well to the prednisone. He could be the poster child for the phrase, " your own millage may vary " . When he is not in a flare, he is normal. The only thing we have noticed is that since his last flare, he has more digestive issues than before. Lots more things he cannot eat without problems that he could eat before the last flare. Other than that, he rarely gets sick. If the kids and I get an upper respiratory flu, he may have a mild case of it for 24 hrs and that's it. When we all had the stomach flu in June, he had it too but again it didn't last as long as it did for the kids and I. He absolutely does not get any type of flu shot or anything we thing will stimulate his immune system. We don't know what caused the flare in '98 but he had gotten a flu shot several months before. We do not have good info on his initial flare as a child. His parents told him he had JRA and never really gave him any other info. When he flared in '98 we found out when he was hospitalized that his medical records did list the initial flare as Stills. It would have been very helpful if his parents had given him the correct info in the first place. I'm not sure if they didn't understand or if they thought it was over and done with and not a future issue. I hope this all answers your questions. Hope you are all warmer than we are here in PA today (wind chills of 15 degrees). Nannette Heckcat/ wrote: > > What are Andy's symptoms like now when he's not flaring? Guest guest
Please, please, please keep connected with us. It is always good for us to see that there are folks who do go into remission. Jami who recently had her shoulder replaced, and from TX, I believe, were child JRA patients. They were not so lucky as 25 years between flares. I hope that Andy's currenty flare will go into remission to. Tom > > Andy is probably not a typical Still's patient. Guest guest
Andy is not currently flaring. I wanted to get us back in touch and up to date on meds/research before he flares again. I really don't think he will be so lucky to have 25 years between the '98 flare and the next one. I believe that if we had possessed the right diagnosis to begin with in '98, we could have cut out three weeks of hell before he was admitted and someone got their hands on his childhood medical records. The service this group does cannot be underestimated. You are giving Still's patients a voice, a unbeatable database of knowledge and best of all hope. Thanks to those who founded the group and those who keep it going today. Nannette Tom wrote: > > Please, please, please keep connected with us. Guest guest
Hi, Sue! Where in Texas are you? I'm in Arlington (between Dallas/Fort Worth) and would like for you to adopt me so I can have some of your milk. (OK, just kidding, sort of!) I drove down to Grandview today to buy raw milk (about 70 miles one way). Yum! a > > Hello, > I just joined this group. I am located in Texas. I currently have 3 Jersey cows. . Guest guest
Hi! I am about 70 miles north of Dallas. 70 miles is a long ways to drive but I can sure understand it! our biggest problem is we really do have more than we can use right now, luckily we have quite a few friends and family that like it. It is just a hassel getting it to everybody..... my refrigerator gets awfully full. Right now everyone is looking forward to lots of homemade icecream this summer! If you head north for any reason come visit and eat some icecream with us. Sue To: RawDairy Sent: Friday, April 24, 2009 6:02:41 PMSubject: Re: intro Hi, Sue!Where in Texas are you?
