Guest guest
Bee -- what's so scary about Bubbleboy is that it ISN'T in an attachment. It's the first virus (of which anyone seems to be aware) that works just by clicking on the email. NOTE: it only works if you have Microsoft Explorer or Microsoft Outlook, which (frankly) seems to be the culprit in a lot of these -- there is a major bug in Explorer that has GOT to be fixed. So one solution is to quit using Explorer and use Netscape (which thus far seems to be unaffected by this virus) ... Other than that, most email software has an option where you can open an email without opening any attachments. It's rather a pain given that some programs -- again, Microsoft Outlook is a problem here -- automatically send messages out as attachments, and I have no idea why. Generally a " txt " message is safe -- but don't open a word file unless you know who sent it and what's in it. Here is the address for Microsoft's patch for " Bubbleboy " (Seinfeld reference) -- http://www.microsoft.com/security/Bulletins/ms99-032.asp Also, if you have questions about bugs, this is always a good source of information: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/index.html

Guest guest
Hey Cousin, I am so pleased that you think it's a real PEACE this time. Too many lives have been lost. As I told you before my ancestors are from Ireland and Scotland...I read as much as I can on the two. I love the music and the wit of the Irish...Have you ever seen the movie...The Quiet Man with Wayne and Maureen O'Hara? I love the country side views. And the movie Far and Away with Kidman and Tom Cruise. Anyway, I got off the track there...I do so hope this will be lasting. Back to the virus...if my Air Force guy sends me anymore I will keep you posted. Guest guest
Upsndowns does not accept attachments/files to be distributed here. Someone probably responded to a post and that someone has the virus and subsequently sent it to all in the send to box. Just a friendly reminder to delete those extra folks in the send to box and just leave Upsndownsegroups. ps If I could be wrong (cough, cough), please let me know. Guest guest
I ran a supplementary, unscheduled Norton virus check tonight and all was well. However, I haven't updated for a couple of weeks. I'll do so later tonight and re-scan. Your explanation of virus protection, requested by one of the members, was good. Nice of you to remind us. Guest guest
Heidi, You should have a virus scan program on your computer. Go to start, then programs, then on system tools, then look in the list to see which virus scan you have. Click on it and select the virus scan and then start scan. It will run through and check all your files. If it detect anything it will show it after it finishes. Also if you haven't updated it in a while, it would be good to go to their web site and download the upgrade before you start. So many new viruses have came out, you probably need to upgrade if you haven't done so in the last week. They recommend upgrading it with their downloads every week. I have learned from my one experience. If you didn't open the mail ,From " HaHaHa " then you probably don't have this one...Carolyn...Keep smiling. You never know who's life you will touch with a simple smile. [ ] VIRUS > To anyone who can help. I am not good at this computer thing.
