Guest guest
Hi Joan, I just talked to my husband's uncle who built my computer. He said if my computer is working find that I don't have a virus. I do not have a scanner and he said one was not needed as they are about three months behind when you buy them. I do check my e-mail addresses before opening them and this has worked for me. I know if it says from the liver group I open them without question. I guess this is risky but I don't know what else to do. I am sorry Lori got the virus but I don't think it came from me. I hope Lori won't leave. The virus screens may be behind when you buy them, but you get "live updates" over the internet, sometimes several times a week. Norton costs about $30, I think -- not sure, as there are often rebates. Many new conputers (Dell, for example) come with the basic program installed, and you subscribe (pay) to receive constant updates for a year. Adding a virus screen isn't difficult or expensive, and it greatly cuts the odds of losing the contents and function of your computer. You have enough to deal with in your life without having one more thing to worry about. Harper

Guest guest
Your husband's uncle needs to get updated himself! <grin> In my previous life, I did a lot of computer consulting and still do some. I use PC-cillin. I download the program from their website. As soon as it is installed, I run the update feature. That downloads the most current program and definitions. I then have it set to update daily. Nearly everyday, there are new definitions. With this particular virus, your computer will not likely show any changes in performance. Many of the new viruses read peoples address book and sends itself to people listed there, so they look like they are coming from people you know. In an increasing number of cases, you need only open the e-mail to be infected, it is no longer necessary to open an attachment. So, unless you have scanned your system with an up to date antivirus program, it is highly likely that you do have a virus. In today's internet, it harms everyone to not protect yourself with the latest antivirus programs. Please, everyone, get one, update regularly, and use it!!! Guest guest
Hello folks, THIS IS NO JOKE. I received the following email today. I searched for it according to the instructions, and I found it on my computer! If I have it, you probably do too! I suggest you find and remove it immediately before it activates. I DID! There is a dormant virus going around that is ready to activate on June 1st. I found this on my computer, as did several other people I know........please check yours. URGENT. A VIRUS could be in your computer files now, dormant but will become active on June 1. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS BELOW TO CHECK IF YOU HAVE IT AND TO REMOVE IT NOW. It was brought to my attention yesterday that a virus is in circulation via email. I looked for it and to my surprise I found it on mine. ..please follow the directions and remove it from yours TODAY!!!!!!! No Virus software can detect it. It will become active on June 1, 2001. It might be too late by then. It wipes out all files and folders on the hard drive. This virus travels thru E-mail and migrates to the 'C:\windows\command' folder. To find it and get rid of it off of your computer, do the following. Go to the " START " button. Go to " FIND " or " SEARCH " Go to " FILES & FOLDERS " Make sure the find box is searching the " C: " drive. Type in; SULFNBK.EXE Begin search. If it finds it, highlight it. Go to 'File' and delete it. Close the find Dialog box Open the Recycle Bin Find the file and delete it from the Recycle bin You should be safe. The bad part is: You need to contact everyone you have sent ANY E- mail to in the past few months. Many major companies have found this virus on their computers. Please help your friends !!!!!!!! DO NOT RELY ON YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE. McAFEE and NORTON CANNOT DETECT IT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT BECOME A VIRUS UNTIL JUNE 1ST. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT OPEN THE FILE!!! Guest guest
Hi Folks I think you will find that the virus warning is an hoax, the file is used on your system to process long file names in windows and is installed when windows is installed. anyone who checks will find this file on their computer but when you delete it you will create a problem on your computer in processing file names over eight digits. Guest guest
The problem with this current virus, " Worm_Bad Trans.A or B " . It doesn't matter if you don't open the attachments, you still get it just by receiving the email. Please everyone make sure you have good anti-virus software and keep it updated. Funny thing about these new viruses that I just received they got right past my McAfee Virus software. And it is supposed to be one of the best?? Same thing happened to . Guest guest
The name of the virus is W32.Badtrans.Bmm (DOT) This is a VERY NASTY virus. All of the antivirus sites have classified it in their highest warning levels. It will not corrupt your operating system, but it will record your password information and send it to secret email addresses, then pass itself along to all of your friends. Some strains of the virus can apparently be executed even without opening the attachment -- they use a bug/feature of Windows called " iframe exploit " to automatically execute. I strongly urge everyone who has not done so already to update their virus information or go to one of the leading virus sites and obtain an update. Also you should make sure you have updated your browser's security using Windows Update (if you don't use windows, you don't have to worry about this virus). Also use your windows search to look for either of these two files: Kernel32.exe (not Kernel32.dll) or Kdll.dll. If you have either file on your PC, you have definitely been infected. (Unfortunately the converse is not necessarily true.) Until you have taken all precautionary steps, only read this discussion group from the site -- do not use your PC's email application to read this mailing list or any other, and you might want to consider not reading any email at all until you have secured your system. I ordinarily don't issue these panicky warnings but I already know several people who have been infected. _________________________________________________________
