> Debbie,

Yes, I live constantly with the pain you have described. I am on meds for

it, but it just helps mask it slightly. Yes, I believe it is liver related.

We have had this discussion before and I asked everyone to post and let me

know just who does suffer from this sort of pain< I had about 9 others

reply and say they suffer from URQ pain. Believe me you are not alone.

I do hope every thing goes really well for you, you will be in my prayers.

Good luck.

SueB.

Hi Sue:

I couldn't stand the pain any longer so I contacted my Internist. He knew

right off what it was ... although I can't remember the medical name (starts

with a C and is about a mile long). He said it's a viral infection that

affects the muscles surrounding the ribcage. The muscles become inflamed.

Due to the fact that I have a history of bleeding, I cannot take the normal

anti-inflammatory course of medicine (i.e., advil). My liver transplant

doctors told me that I can take either darvocet or tylenol with codeine, but

I don't want to go that route either. Due to the fact that it's a viral

infection I will just have to let it run it's course and put up with the

pain, which has now moved to the left side of my ribcage.

Thanks for the input.

Hi Debbie,

I am Amy and I was diagnosed in Nov 98 with AIH. At first I thought life was

over, but truly I have to say it is not!!! You must be frightened. Keep up

your spirits and ask any questions you have, I wish I had this group when I

was first diagnosed ti would have been a saving grace. So ask anything that

comes to mind. There are many people who have lived with this ailment for

many years and pretty happily also. Ask away!!!

Debbie,

Just a bit of information which you may already know. Prednisone will

elevate your blood glucose levels! I became diabetic when on prednisone, the

doctor took me off over 1 1/2 years ago but the diabetes continues (I am diet

controlled at this time).

You may find that you have to adjust your insulin (talk to your MD) while on

prednisone.

Just my 2 cents worth. Jo

Welcome Debbie, sorry you are here with this disease but glad to meet you.

Hang on to your hat because you will have e-mail coming out of your ears. My

daughter (Jodi) 27 years old was diagnosed in Feb. and we drive 4 hours to

Miami Florida to see her hepatologist. Her next visit will be Nov. 20 and he

has told her gastroenterolgist, who is here in Haines City that he will be

doing tests this time. Don't know what kind but will find out when we get

there.......This is a good group of people all brought together by this

disease and are happy to help when able. You have questions so just ask,

someone knows something about it I'm sure or if possible will find out. Take

care and God bless, Genny/Jodi's Mom

Debbie,

I missed the question, but Prednisone, is working systemically since you take

it by mouth it goes throughout your body. An injection in your knee,

cortisone only works at the sight thats why you had no reaction to the

injection.

Debbie,

I remember feeling the exact same way only you have to add to the mix that I

was jumpy. Very easy to yell at husband or children. You will get to used

to it, but write things down so you don't forget how you are feeling from day

to day in case there should be a problem. Also you could use this as a guide

to see how much better you feel as you loser the dose over the next couple of

years.

My son had aih, he had a recent flareup and so they put him on 60 mgs of

prednisone. He had very little side effects from that dosage, BUT he was only

on that high for one week, BUT for that week, he felt much better and had

tons of energy but that was about it. Other things will p[robaly happen

after you are on prednisone for awhile but i really doubt that you will stay

on that high a dosage for long at all. My son has not gained weight. His face

has broken out pretty bad and he has a slight moon face. Everyone reacts

differently to the meds so please don't get discouraged.Things may be better

than you think.

Hope you don't have many side effects

Hi Debbie,

All I can say is that STRESS is in this world it what we do with it and

how we handle it that makes our lives different form each other. If you feel

stressed out when you work and you still have to or want to work, then my

suggestion is to learn to deal with stressors differently. I mean take a

yoga course, maybe take a more constructive route with the stress. If that

is impossible(which it would be for me) then I would maybe look for a less

stressful position. It is a major trigger to our disease process(I think).

I stopped working because I am a nurse and I honestly could not handle it.

It was so hard for me to accept this fact but here I am not working but I AM

HERE AND I STILL HAVE MY LIVER. So this keeps me going everyday. Just my

thought on it.

Hi Deb, glad to hear from you. I know you enjoyed your mother being with

you. I feel blessed that me and my mother and Jodi only live a few miles

from one another. Up until just a few years ago my grandmother was alive

also. I sure miss her, we were very close for she lived with us from the

time I was 9 yrs. old. It was like having two mothers. I got in twice as

much trouble. LOL Getting the post from Patty was a God sent, she really

put my mind at ease about the transplant team and the doctors at the Miami

hospital. Her E-mail address is PatJ@.... She was dx in 1982 with

AIH and had the transplant in 1997. She said the transplant team is great

there as are the doctors that work with the team. I'm sure she would be glad

to hear from you.......I'm sorry your sugar is out of control. How are you

feeling and are you having any side effects from the meds? Better clear out

the rest of the mail. Will talk to you soon. Take care Hon and I will be

thinking about you. Oh, when we were in Miami Dr. Jeffers office is right

next door to Dr. Reddy's, I saw his name on the door. God bless,

Genny/Jodi's Mom

I did see that post. I need to go back and get her email addy. One

day we may all 4 get together.

I wish my mom and dad would get a computer. I think it would be good

for her to talk to you. She's 1,100 miles away and worries

constantly. My blood sugars have been so crazy. She was here for 2

weeks and helped out a lot. It's kind of scary for me to be home

alone. Just talking to another mother who understands would help.

Thinking about you both,

Debbie

Debbie: I just wrote you but it was before I read your post to me. Yes, I

bet you are just the cutest thing. I am a cute little butter ball myself,

esp. since I've quit smoking. I'm 5'2 eyes of blue has anybody seen my gal.

But you sure can't call me skinny. Call me anything just don't call me late

for supper. LOL Bob from Angel Flight ask my weight and I told him you can

ask my age but not my weight, I had to tell him anyway. Really I have only

gained a couple of pounds but it feels like 25. When your short every ounce

shows up.........My mother went to Moffitt today and saw an internal

medicine. Dr. they want her to see a Hematologist next. I feel much better

since she is going there. Its late I have to go, talk to you later. Love,

Genny

I hope that Raneisha is able to keep up with school...From Nov of 99 until this past Aust Ty was doing so well....I thought nothing was going to stop him.....But he does have alot going on and when he gets hit he gets hit hard.....So he is trying to recover and get back to what he likes to do....school...with friends...and work....and being on his computer...which he hasn't done in quite a while....

It is attitude like that which causes injury & misdiagnoses to all

of us! Who knows who else he might have hurt in his career. We have

all seen our share of uncaring, cavalier Doctors who have told us " it

is all in your head " or " stress " and then we finally see a doctor who

cares & checks us out and we have a diagnosis like many of us in the

group.

Your insurance or co-payments shouldn't be used for the eye doctor.

Consider your options!

Hi I saw this e-mail the other day about endo...and thought I was on the wrong support board....I also have endo and had surgery back in Dec of 99...felt really great for abut 1/1/2 years....the pain came back when Ty was in the hosp in January...I thought it was my fault because I forgot to take my birth control pills..(they have me on continious so that I do not ovulate)...I forgot to take them for 3 nights and then had to play catch up...and then the pain...YUCK...it has continually gotten worse...and pretty much constant....so I am due to get another surgery for that....what fun...

It seems that it never ends.

How is your sister doing....she is young so I can see her reason to not want the hysterectomy....I am much older...but am still opting for the laproscopic surgery...for now...

How is Tommy doing....As you can see I am behind in my mail...like that is a surprise....but I am trying to catch up....

Hope to hear from you soon...

So nice that you and Genny were able to get together....

Joan from our group....lives in No Jersey....but summers at the Jersey shore....We live about 45 minutes from there....and my husband plays in a band that plays alot of our door stuff in the summer....So we were able to meet last summer...She brought her daughters....they are beautiful....I pity her when they become teens....YIKES....it was really nice...just like you said...as if we had known each other for years....Ty went with me...so she is the one and only here that has even talked to him....We only got together once last summer because I had my hands full with my mom who was very ill and went thru 4 surgeries in 3 months....Triple bypass...in june...2 bypasses on her leg in Aug...and then the leg being amputated in Sept....so now that my mom is doing so much better....I should be able to get out there more often...in fact will be able to bring my mom....

The other group I am in for PSC..another liver disease that Ty has...there are a few that have also met....brings the group even closer I think....

Take care..
