Lottie, so sorry about your sister. I hope she doesn't have leukemia, at

all. Although I've always been told it's not inherited, my Mom has

developed thrombocytopenia, which is closely related to CML and can turn

into CML. The body produces too many platelets in her disease. I can't

help but think there's something genetic to our problems.

I don't know if any of you have heard of inherited leukemia. My sister is

ill and my niece called to ask some questions about leukemia and what kind I

had. She said the doctor mentioned something about inherited leukemia. I

said I never heard of it and the chances of her getting CML, too would be

off the charts. I did look it up and this is what I found:

My mom was dx with cml but then they called it Lymphoma. And that is what

she died of about 7 years ago. I don't think the doctors knew how to treat

her. She was 83 years old. She took so many medications that one thing led

to another. That is why I am such a stickler about only taking my Tasigna.

If possible.

My mom's brother died when he was 6 from leukemia,

And there is lots of cancer in our family, mostly on my dad's side, with the

exception of my maternal grandfather who died of colon cancer, and had a

colostomy in the early 30's. I always thought that I would die of cancer and was

not even surprised when I had uterine cancer at age 36.  It did surprise me

though, that I lived.  And because of the family history, cml surprised my kids

more than me, and thanks to Gleevec, and Sprycel, and a few other drugs, I'm

still alive and kicking!  Bobby
