I had my first visit to the Rumie last week and all the usual xrays etc taken and he prescribed Sulphasalazine, you start with one a day for a week then 2 a day for a weel then 3 a day for a week then 4 a day, so your body gets used to them, my problem is that since starting them I have had a constant headache that is really getting me down, is there anything I can do to prevent this while taking them. I am still also on naproxen.

Thankyou

Ruth

Hi Ruth

I have been using sulphasalazine for about 4 mths now,

& it has been my miracle drug. I also use Vioxx

everyday. When I first started taking the

sulphasalazine I also experienced headaches &

generally feeling unwell, but I found that this went

away after a few weeks once my body got used to it. I

just used panadol for the headaches.

Also I found that it took a few weeks for the effects

to really come in. I started slowly with the 1 then 2

then 4 tablets, but I have since been able to drop

down to just on tablet a day & this keeps it totally

under control. I have only had one flare in 4 mths,

whereas before I was in constant pain everyday. I feel

like I finally have my life back again.

Hi Ruth, You're welcome. When I first got diagnosed, I saw the rheumy every week, then every 2 weeks, while I got used to the meds. Now I see the rheumy every 3 months because my arthritis is fairly stable. My current rheumy is in my insurance plan (I started seeing him when I was on a different plan). He's very understanding and wonderful. If I have questions or get a cold, I just call him up rather than go to see him (I try to save the $120 visit when I can.)

Have a good weekend,
