Aloha Sharon , you mentioned that when you took a vacation from Sprycel because

of pleural effusions, it didn't affect your blood counts. The real test is in

the marrow, did they do a BMA during that time? I know that the TKI's really do

stay in your system for a while and do knock a punch to the phillies, but I am

not certain how long we can take a vacation. For the women who went through

pregnancy, some switched to Inteferon because it does not cross the blood brain

barrier. Some didn't take anything, but their WBC did not say low, their counts

escalated if I recall correctly. Once they resumed their treatment, their

counts normalized, but I wonder if they were able to recover fully - back to

where they were before they stopped.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions. I remember distinctly that when

I went off Hydrea to get into a trial with INF + HHT, my counts escalated so

much in less than the one week wash out period, they had to put me back on

Hydrea. I'm quoting you that everyone is different, so I wonder what would

happen if I stopped. I had to stop SKI several times because of severe side

effects, mainly hives, but I don't recall my counts changing, but there was no

mention of the BMA, because there were no other BMA, other than the initial one

before I started it. I had time to recover in 3 months for my next BMA.

It would be interesting to hear from others who did stop and relapsed.

Blessings,

Lottie

I have been off all meds since Feb. 19 . I go back to see my onc tomorrow. I am

quite nervous as to what may have been going on in Gleevec's absence. Will let

you all know . Keep your fingers crossed. I never thought I would say it but I

want my Gleevec back. Feeling pretty bad.
