Guest guest
Dear Group, For those of you who joined in on our discussion on Aranesp/Procrit and those who are interested, here is the skinny. I just spoke to representatives of both companies for patient assistance. SafetyNet is a corporation owned by Amgen to distribute free drugs. Here are the steps: Call 888-762-6436 and if you are given options, press 1, but sometimes a real person answers. Have your doctor call the number above and give them your Medicare policy number and the diagnosis code. The doctor's office will call you to tell you what to do from there. _____________________________ I next called Ortho Biotech, which is the corporation that distributes free Procrit. That phone number is 800-652-6227. Again, if given an option choose 1. Once the doctor has established that you are qualified, they will either ship the drug to his office or to your parmacy. They will send you an application to fill in, whereas the supplier above takes your info on the phone. So numero uno, you call the doctor's office and the other you wait for an application form. You can't depend on the internet providing the correct numbers, as their web site may not have the current correct number, and even then I had to call several numbers given me which were not the right parties to speak to, so don't give, up, you follow all the leads and you will get to your destination. Hope this is of assistance to you, and especially my buddy Bobby who has been getting the royal run around with me. My doctor does not give Aranesp, so I will have to wait and see. Maybe he will change his mind if it doesn't cost him anything. So cheers everyone, and have a nice day. Lottie
Guest guest
Lottie- You are amazing. I'm glad you are on our side....I wouldn't want to have you " agin us " as they used to say in the old cowboy movies. I'm sure learning how to navigate the CML water. Guest guest
Procrit saved my sanity and maybe my life when I was first diagnosed with CLL in 2002. I was getting weekly injections of 40,000u then the injections were more spaced out and the dose decreased as things began to level out. If my hgb goes even to the 11's I feel it immediately. When the rules for using procrit changed I panicked. I went into my next oncology appointment with my argument all laid out and ready to argue to the death that I needed this drug. My oncologist told me that her husband had been working with dialysis patients for 20 years and for 20 years he had been telling her that those patients on procrit were clogging up the machines. I don't regret one minute of the time I was on procrit. It gave me back a life, but at the same time her argument trumped mine that day. For some strange reason my next hgb was in the normal range and it has been ever since??????? I Patguess timing is everything. Like all meds Procrit and Aranesp must be used carefully but they can change your life for the better. I would like to see further studies on how to make these meds safer so that others can enjoy their benefits with fewer risks.
