Cyndi,

I found this article and given what we know about Stills being a stressful /

emotional situation, causing pain / fatigue / injury which are some triggers

for the Neurocardiogenic syndrome, I personally would think that these causal

symptoms would make a connection to Stills. Just my opinion. Smiles, Caroline

Hello Tee!

We asked the doctor your questions, and this was his reply:

Neurocardiogenic syncope is not common with lupus. Lupus can affect the

autonomic nervous system, causing many different manifestations, but syncope is

not a common one.

Treatments for the syncope are going to vary depending on any causes found.

Causes for neurocardiogenic syncope are hard to define. Some people have this

problem under stressful/emotional situations. Other people with pain, fatigue or

injury. We know that in certain people, once the trigger is present, a cascade

of things happen, that can end in fainting (low heart beat, low blood flow,

etc.). But this actual problem, does not usually any certain cause, other than

that person's predisposition.

I don't know of any research being performed on any connection between SLE and

neurocardiogenic syncope. You probably need a good rheumatologist and a

neurologist to thoroughly examine you and rule out other possible causes for

fainting, that might have a greater chance of being connected to lupus.

We may not be able to change the direction of the wind, but we can adjust our

sails.

Caroline; I failed to say thank you for your input lately. I don't

know if it all applies but I have found it very interesting.

I have suffered with this sydrome since teenage years. I fell and

cracked my jaw on a porcaline bath tub and lost about 10 teeth and

many stiches. It lessened as I got older but still returns when

symptoms of Still's are stronger, with certain medications and

situations. Once again thank you for your research. Smiles for your

day, luv, Melt
