Guest guest
Hi Eva, I just read this post. I'm sorry you have been on vacation from all meds. What was the reason? Side effects or low blood counts? I will pray for you to get your Gleevec back. God Bless, Jackie S. Eva From: Lottie Duthu Sent: Saturday, March 07, 2009 8:48 PM CML Subject: [ ] Taking a vacation Aloha Sharon , you mentioned that when you took a vacation from Sprycel because of pleural effusions, it didn't affect your blood counts. The real test is in the marrow, did they do a BMA during that time? I know that the TKI's really do stay in your system for a while and do knock a punch to the phillies, but I am not certain how long we can take a vacation. For the women who went through pregnancy, some switched to Inteferon because it does not cross the blood brain barrier. Some didn't take anything, but their WBC did not say low, their counts escalated if I recall correctly. Once they resumed their treatment, their counts normalized, but I wonder if they were able to recover fully - back to where they were before they stopped. There are still a lot of unanswered questions. I remember distinctly that when I went off Hydrea to get into a trial with INF + HHT, my counts escalated so much in less than the one week wash out period, they had to put me back on Hydrea. I'm quoting you that everyone is different, so I wonder what would happen if I stopped. I had to stop SKI several times because of severe side effects, mainly hives, but I don't recall my counts changing, but there was no mention of the BMA, because there were no other BMA, other than the initial one before I started it. I had time to recover in 3 months for my next BMA. It would be interesting to hear from others who did stop and relapsed. Guest guest
Hi Eva and Sharon, AST stands for Aspartate Aminotransferase. It can be a sign of liver distress but it can also be due to other problems. Eva, do you know what your ALT and ALP are? If your ALT and ALP are also high then it's more likely to be your liver than something else. Don't worry too much though. Even if it does turn out to be your liver, there are options for you. You can either switch drugs or add Prednisone to the Gleevec, both have been effective ways of dealing with stressed livers. Guest guest
Eva when I first went on Tasigna I had liver stress and my liver counts went sky high. I would think your doctor would order the following on your blood test, as I have it done once a week. Urea, Creatinine, Amylase, Lipase, Alkline Phosphatase, Bilirubin, total, Alt(SGPT) AST(SGot) and LD. These would give a clear understanding what is happening. MY tests now come up within normal range. At one time they were very high I had to take a vacation from Tasigna SkipD From: Tracey <traceyincanada@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Taking a vacation-Eva Date: Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 12:27 AM Hi Eva and Sharon, AST stands for Aspartate Aminotransferase.
