Here's a guide to the pros and cons of some hotly debated items on the dinner

table.

What the PROS say what's good about soy:

Soy is an excellent source of high-quality protein and is low in artery-clogging

fat. It's also rich in important nutrients such as iron, zinc, and often

calcium.

What the PROS have to say about what's bad about soy:

The most serious side effect of soy is its potential to increase the risk of

breast cancer in those who are predisposed. Any woman who has had breast cancer,

or who is at risk, should discuss the pros and cons of soy with her physician.

Soy also has been shown to interfere with thyroid function. It may inhibit the

gland's ability to do its job in people who are iodine deficient, and it reduces

absorption of thyroid medications. Iodine deficiency is rare in this country,

but if you're on any thyroid medication, take it several hours before or after

consuming soy foods.

If you are really interested in this and other controversial food and beverage

subjects, you can read the rest at the website listed below. This might

surprise you.

More info on resveratrol. I posted something on grape seed extract a few weeks

ago. This compound is found in the skin of red grapes, the vines and stalks,

but the strongest concentration is in the skin. Not only does it give color and

taste to the wine, it is used to treat diseases of the blood vessels. If you

want more info on this subject, I've taken all the guesswork out of it, so

here's where to go for it: http://tinyurl.com/c66fud

See you in the vineyards.

Blessings,

Lottie
