Guest guest
Shar, I've been taking it for about 2 months, primarily because of eye problems. There have been no adverse reactions. It is supposed to be one of the most powerful antioxidants. It, in addition to shark liver oil, was the only alternative treatment I saw on the Net for temporal arteritis (an inflammatory artery problem). I think that speaks well of it, and I would think it would work well for other inflammatory problems. Dr. Jack Masquelier of France was the discoverer of it and holds the patent. A product bearing his name is marketed as: Tru-OPCs by Natures Way. I don't know which product on the market is the best. From my research on it, I believe grape seed extract and pine bark extract (both pycnogenols) are excellent supplements to take because they help to control damaging free radicals. Guest guest
Hi Jan, It's just that it's an antioxidant so that's why you must have bought it. Chris. Hi Folks, Could someone remind me why I bought grape seed extract today? I just know I wanted to try it a month or so ago when we were talking about it, but today is the first time I've ever seen it. So now I have it, starting taking it tonight, but haven't a clue why. Did it have something to do with me being AS and trying to go after a different critter than a mycoplasma. The bottle just lets me know its an antioxidant, which I need bocoodles of anyhow. Obviously not with it, but still trying... Guest guest
I was just given info last week by my doctor that medical testing on Grape Seed Extract along with Milk Thistle indicated it is of no value to us and she suggested I not worry about taking them. She did not have the article with her but this physician is fairly good at recognizing the need for supplements, antioxidants, etc. She indicated the article was in a medical bulletin. Has anyone seen such an article? It was my impression that Grape Seed Extract was also helpful for allergies. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks, Sharon ---- >From: cadlard@... > >Hi Jan, > >It's just that it's an antioxidant so that's why you must have bought it. >Chris. > > > >Hi Folks, > >Could someone remind me why I bought grape seed extract today? Guest guest
It's suppose to be much more powerful as an antioxident than either vitamin C or E. Dr. Passwater wrote a book on it titled The New Superantioxident - Plus. He recommends a product by Klaire International in Longmont, California as the best on the market. I took it when fighting lymphomatoid papulosis the first time. He says it's a free radical antagonist and vitamin C potentiator. I've heard some pretty good stories from people taking this product - my daughter being one of them. Unfortunately, it's sold by MLM, but you can sign up and purchase it at a discount yourself without having to sell it. We are currently taking a product called Reservatrol which seems to be pretty good. Guest guest
I'd like to see the study and who funded it. Guest guest
Ethel - Next time I see the dr I will try and get the name of where this was published. As I understand it, the article was in a medical bulletin but I don't know the name of the bulletin. I believe she said it was put out by a group of dr's that do believe the medical community needs to pay attention to the benefits of supplements, etc. I was hoping the doctors associated with the list might have received this information. She also indicated that I should not worry about taking Milk Thistle as this was also listed as not effective. I have been taking Milk Thistle since a bout with drug induced hepatitis caused by Celebrex. Because these supplements are expensive I was trying to find out what info others might have. At the present time I am still taking both of these. Sharon Re: rheumatic Grape Seed Extract >From: Snooks <snooks@...> > >I'd like to see the study and who funded it. The gse they usually discuss on this list to fight yeast is grape*fruit* seed extract. Your ds should be fine with the grape seed extract, and it will actually probably help bacteria, rather than causing an overgrowth. HTH - it gets confusing! Guest guest
Debbie, I really can't find anything specific for candida except to help build the immune system, thus reducing the effects of candida. The only Candida that the medical community truly recognizes is that developed by many AIDS patients after they have diminished immune system response. Here is an article on Leaky Gut Syndrome with some interesting details on the action of grape seed extract and leaky gut (sometimes caused by candida). Hope this helps. http://www.health-n-energy.com/ronagut.htm > Hi, > Does anyone here have any good literature or links about grape seed > extract and candida.......or that it's an antifungal? Guest guest
Hi there, It's actually **Grapefruit** Seed extract that is the antifungal. It's pretty strong and very very bitter. It's so strong, you can actually use it as a household cleaner as well, and you have to dilute it before ingesting it because it can burn your throat. It works pretty well from my experience (providing you don't eat sugar). If you eat sugar while taking it the candida will only become resistant to it (i'm sure you know this). **Grape** Seed extract is an antioxidant and is also useful for killing candida but it does it indirectly by making your immune system stronger. I have never tried it. Hope this helps, Aimee > Hi, > Does anyone here have any good literature or links about grape seed > extract and candida.......or that it's an antifungal? Guest guest
I take grape seed extract, primarily for vision problems. I've noticed that my vision is a bit better, but I can't say I ever noticed improvement with my RA symptoms. I believe it's a pretty strong antioxident and, as you say, helps with circulation. Not what I would call a " miracle cure " (haven't found one yet :-), but seems to be helpful for some things. YMMV, MRSROSE2000@... wrote: >I was just reading a book called " Miracle Cures " .
