Can't lose those last 10 pounds, even with diet and exercise? Learn what is

happening in your body and get expert advice on overcoming a weight-loss

plateau. You are on a weight-loss plateau, where your body has decreased resting

energy expenditure and decreased thyroid hormone secretion to try and stop the

weight loss, and your leptin levels are low so you are probably hungry. However,

this is the time to keep doing what you are doing and you will win out. Don't

despair, as your body cannot hold out much longer.

Allergies

Q: I have developed severe allergies to ragweed and some trees in my home state

of land. I also suffered from some problems when I lived in Green Valley,

Arizona.

A: Unfortunately, the immune system is incredibly adaptive, and once a person

has environmental allergies, they will usually find something to be allergic to

no matter where they live. Sometimes, when a person with pollen allergy moves

from one part of the country to an area with very different trees and plants,

they will have fewer symptoms for a year or two, and then their problems will be

just as severe as before.
