Hi ,

How long was she on the Hydrea? Many of us stayed on Hydrea until our counts

came down to " more reasonable " levels (like under 50K).

I hope she's also on Allopurinol while all those cells are dying. It will help

protect her kidneys and prevent gout.

You'll probably see a dramatic decline in the second and third week of

treatment. By the end of a month I wouldn't be surprised to see completely

normal counts, and possibly even low counts. Don't worry if they go below

normal at some point, this is normal. Once her marrow gets used to making

healthy cells again, things will even out.

Take care,

Tracey

count to decline to normal levels? My daughter's WBC initially was 294K and the

docs were treating her with hydroxyurea until they made the positive diagnoses

for CML. Now she is about 249K and just started Gleevic two days ago and we are

wondering how long it takes for the count to get down to normal levels.

Hi Tracey,

Thank you for your reply. was on Hydrea Saturday and Sunday. They

started her on Gleevic Monday. They are giving her something to help her

kidneys, but I don't remember its name. She is in Stanford University Hospital

so I am confident she is in very capable hands and I am higly thankful for that.

A lot of the information I get off of this group I pass on to her. She is 18,

19 in a month so still very young.
