Guest guest
I was on a study for Kineret and it did help me; after about two months and then it was a slow improvement. Kineret is only really effective when used in combination with other drugs, like Enbrel, MTX, or best with all three together although it does cause increased risk of infections. I am using it now to help me since I can't get my Enbrel and because I still had some Enbrel in my system (along with my regular MTX shots) when I started taking it, it is helping the flare not be so severe. I also found that by letting the Kineret come to room temperature before I injected it, it didn't burn so much. I hope this helps anyone on it. About hair problems from MTX and other drugs, I started using satin pillow cases which really helped. Evidently regular pillow cases cause the hair to catch on the material; then when we move, the hair breaks. Since those of us using heavy RA drugs have enough breakage to begin with, the satin is much easier on the hair and leaves more on the head and less in the sink! Also I got a shampoo that has camomile and henna in it, both are natural hair enhancers to add color and strength to hair. Using a good shampoo is a must, as is taking enough folic acid to offset the side effects of the drugs. I hope this helps! Anne
Guest guest
Dear Anne, Thanks for the info on the hair issue. I have had such heartache over mine over the past couple of years. Sounds funny, my joints cause constant physical pain, but I'm worried about my hair. Go figure! I also tried Kineret, but did not have good results. I had an allergic reaction to it and had to stop after 12 days. I also tried to let it get to room temp. before injecting, but it still burned like crazy. Now I have to wait until after my back surgery to start Prosorba Column. Probably sometime in June. By the way, was there a certain brand of shampoo that you used? I am very glad to hear it worked for some of you. Joanne
Guest guest
Sherri, I have not been on Kineret yet, but I have heard that if you ice the area to be injected prior to and after it helps some. Also you may want to try either taking benadryl or rubbing benadryl on the site after. Sorry I can't be of more help.
