Robin....my co-pay is $20.00  your insurance doesn't sound like it is covering

the medication.  The medicine for 400 mg is about 3,800 dollars a month, I

couldn't do it without my insurance.  Also the Leukemia and Lymphoma society may

be able to help you navigate those waters.

I am wondering what kind of luck people have with getting financial aid with

Novartis. My cancer center is working with them and filling out financial aid

forms for me to help with co-pay. Does anyone know how often they do help? I'm

sure it is expensive for everyone. My husband and I have always worked and have

insurance but my co-pay is more than any payment we have ever made for anything,

even more than our house payment. I don't get it, how do people do it?

When I was insured, my co-pay was $150 a month. Our plan changed and my co-pay

more than doubled. LLS helps pay those fees up to $500 a year (although I

understand there is now another fund that will pay more). It was a killer. When

I got laid off, I contacted Novartis directly and they now supply my Gleevec at

no charge.

Wow....now I know Kaiser is going to take a contract out on me...I'm costing

them a bundle. I'm going to be more grateful to my company now for our

insurance plan.

Hi China

You and me both. I have Kaiser and when I pick up my pills I get a receipt

that tells me how much I save by being a Kaiser member and it is $4300.00

And that is only for 84 pills.

I am very thankful.

,

Glad to hear Novartis pulled through for you. I've looked at other funds and

we are still going through the process. The LLS $500.00 a year wouldn't even

cover one mth co-pay for me. I can't believe the price but what choice does a

person have? Eck

I know what you mean!  When I was diagnosed in May '08, I was told my CML was

treatable with Gleevec.  I thought, " Great! " Then I got to the pharmacy and

found out how expensive it is, and that my insurance will only cover one month a

year, and my co-pay was $900.00.  As I wrote out the check to my pharmacy,

crying my eyes out of course, I wiped out my checking account for the month!

I applied for help with Novartis, with the help of my Doctor's office, and

waited the two longest weeks of my life to find out if they would help.  I

didn't know what I was going to do if they wouldn't help me.  I found out that

they would help, and they've been sending it to me ever since.  I'm soooo

thankful!

I know what you mean. When Granny was diagnosed, she called me and said her

medicine was going to be $3500 a month and we totally forgot about the cancer. I

was on the phone trying to find out how to get this paid for.

She is on Medicare, Humana, social security prescription assistance and PSI pays

the rest. She pays $5 a month.

I'm so glad to hear they helped you out. When we found out how much the co-pay

was, that was just as devastating as the diagnosis. Don't get me wrong, I am

extremely grateful there is a pill that helps me live a normal life as possible.

What I don't understand is that I have other family that has had IV chemo and

they aren't expected to pay their co-pay every time they go in for a treatment,

which is the way it should be processed, but because mine is in a pill form, I

have to pay the co-pay before I get my treatment. I asked my insurance co. why

that is and they said they get asked that question a lot but that is how the

policy is written out blah blah blah. Hopefully we will be hearing back from

Novartis soon.
