YEAH!  I am so happy for le and your family!  It is encouraging to hear

this news.

Our son had his T & A on Aug 05, 2008 and has not fevered since.  His speech is

drastically improved (because his fevers were every 2 weeks his throat

involvement made him not want to speak very much and he was at the low end of

verbal communication for his age).  And I am so thankful to not have to medicate

him anymore.  I am still hesitant to feel that the fevers are over for us, a big

part of me is holding back incase it is temporary.  If it does return, the time

he has had without the fevers has already been worth having the surgery done.

Your story and input helped me make the decision to have our son's T & A, and I

THANK YOU for your participation on this site!

Best Wishes,

Pruden

Missy - I do remember your decision making process and hope that Tyler continues

to be fever free.  I hope more families find a treatment option that works for

them.

Take care!

Ruthie, It's a tough recovery for some - and relatively simple for others... But

I truly believe you'll have good results.  Please look up on T & A recovery

techniques on the website - and you'll see some details that I posted and others

have commented on as well.  There had been several emails back and forth before

my daughter had her T & A - so I tried to combine everyone's suggestions into one

long email... They by no means were all of my ideas.  This group helped us

beyond my hopes.

Again - thank you, Fran.

Did you notice that les had an episode during stressful events or near

them? Or do you think they were clocked every three weeks or so?

My daughter is five, and I am considering next summer for her tna..but am

actually pretty scared.

In answers to your questions:

1) Yes, Dani's fevers frequently spiked off-cycle at medically traumatic events,

and also around the time of the birth of our son.

2) Dani's fevers were never " spot-on " cyclical... they were roughly monthly for

a while, then we tried Prednisone and the came every 10-12 days.  Then we

reduced the Prednisone dose, so the fevers lengthened out.  But definitely saw

spikes for things like blood draws or multiple vaccines, etc.

3) I understand your apprehension.  However, with a 5-year old, you can

communicate better and stress the importance of drinking.  I'd also consider -

why wait through the winter with possible other diseases?  If you are strongly

considering doing a T & A... do it soon.  We did Dani's 12/10... while we thought

it might make it bad for the holidays... it was a relief to have a 10-day

recouperation... and no fevers since.  I'm sure you'll spend far more than 10

days with your child feeling awful between now and next summer.  If you are

already leaning that way... my advice - do it now if you can.

We did several consults with both ENT and Pediatrician and my husband and I

talked through it a lot.  We came to the conclusion that the amount of drugs we

were pushing into a 2 year old was potentially worse than the very slight risk

of issue with a T & A.

Best of luck,

Ginger
