Guest guest
Hi, Since my son is so tiny (20 months old), and since is not life threatening, I'm leaning towards letting the episodes run their course without any sort of treatment, except the Tylenol & Motrin. At this point, I know the steroids are probably an option and I've been staring at this prescription for Colchicine for a few days, coming to the conclusion that now is not the right time, at least until he gets a bit older. Anyone opt to do ONLY the Tylenol & Motrin? What were the results? Did the episodes spread out on their own? Severity of episodes get worse or better? I've been resisting the notion that has been sick, after each episode convincing myself that it " will be the last one " , but I'm starting to come to grips with the condition and taking it one day at a time, instead of worrying constantly. I think I will try to keep him off any medication until 1.I see a compelling study or a serious medical breakthrough happens 2. If this starts interfering with a " normal " childhood. I would love to hear thoughts on declining treatment. I will not be offended by opposing views, a lot can be learned from discourse, just like to hear what others think, especially those who are managing the condition without meds and the results of that. Thanks!
Guest guest
, We didn't treat with anything except Tylenol and Motrin. We have a bottle of steroids but have never used them. They Steriods lowers your immune system while on them so you have to be 100% it's and not a virus or anything else. Our daughter Maddie also has a blood disorder and had spleen removed at age 4. Because she doesn't have a spleen anymore to help fight off illness the doctors told us giving her the steriods could be very dangerous for her. So we have never given it to her. The Tylenol never really helps Maddie at all and sometimes her fever would actually go up. The Motrin works so much better. Sometimes nothing helps but we usually start with Motrin. For the years when Maddie was fevering regularly there were 3 to 4 days out of every month where life for all of us stopped. Because Maddie didn't have a spleen and there is no way to be 100% sure it's , Maddie spent those 3-4 days in the hospital every month with us by her side. We opted to take her healthy tonsils out a few years back because we knew it worked for others and thought the one time procedure would be better than being on medicine for long term or spending time every month in the hospital and although it does NOT work for ALL. It worked for Maddie. I've been reading the post for years and it seems to work for kids more often when they have their tonsils out when they are at least 3 or 4 years old though. Obviously that is not scientific. Just what it seems to be from reading the post. Unfortunately like I said before, most people who it has worked for are not on here anymore so there is no way of knowing. Tracey
