Guest guest
Sorry I have not posted the last week or two. Rashes again and quite tired. My husband has just come out of hospital - hernia operation. As you men will appreciate his hernia was quite low down in the groin area - - there is a lot of groaning when sittting down, sitting up and laying down. I have been having fun teasing him as his nether regions (polite on the posting - if speaking one to one I would of stated something else) nether regions will do - are blue black - looks very sore - told him they will have to be cut off as will his other bits if they get any blacker from the bruising - he is horrified - men are so funny - as if! has been good fun to tease though. he is not in a good way but walking gingerly. At least it was not testular (spelling) cancer which was a first thought by medicos until examined more thoroughly. Phew !! Would not that have been great - I have CML and he has goodness knows what? Anyway all is well just a hernia and treatable but Boy it has been a long week post op. QUERY or just advise from my blood testing! Have I something to be worried about? I just had my 3 month testing - PCRU continuing which is great. At times my BCR/abl was either negative 10 or 11 against BCR of 530 000 or 250 000 and this time against 530 000 BCR the BCR/abl was a big fat zero. The lowest incidence of disease progression from the lab which is in my Captial City's Emergency Hospital. Jumping up and down - great news. My question though and concern! Even though PCRU and continues to be so (diagnosed 08/2007 - PCRU very early Oct 2008). The last blood test my white cells were just below normal and border line neutropenia (11/ 08). The next blood test 02/09) is showing the same trend and all white cells themselves and all others are also reduced and also just on borderline neutropenia. How is neutropenia treated? White Cells - 3.4 Neut - - 1.4 Lymph - 1.5 Mono - 0.2 (lower end of scale) Eosin - 0.2 (lower end of scale) Also my general chemistry is interesting even though taking supplements (from dietician - liquid form) my calcium levels have started to reduce as has my phosphate and corrected calcium (I do not know what corrected calcium is?) Another concern is my kidney level test eGFR is 58 ML/min/1.73m 2 - I think it should be around 60 ML Lab reports if this is a new abnormality (which it is) suggests a urine albumin/creatinine ration and assessment of CVD risk factors What does this mean? Is there an issue of falling general blood levels for other white cells and general chemistry. All my general bloods are just below normal? Has anyone experienced this when PCRU and what do you do about it? Your advise would be appreciated Sue
Guest guest
Hi Sue, Sorry to hear about your husband's problem, I hope he heals quickly from the surgery. As for your labs, I see nothing to be concerned about. You aren't really close to being neutropenic. They don't consider you to be neutropenic until your neutrophils go below 1 and you really aren't there. I spent several years with neuts between 1 and 1.3 with no problems. Low counts are very common (even expected) with CML therapy. Do you take Vit D with your calcium? Vit D helps with calcium absorption so that's something you may want to ask your doctor about. As for the eGFR, I don't know any doctors who pay any attention to it. Mine has never been in the normal range and none of my doctors have ever been concerned. Much more indicative of kidney function is your creatinine. As long as that's normal, you have nothing to worry about. Hope that helps, Tracey > > Sorry I have not posted the last week or two. > Rashes again and quite tired. > > My husband has just come out of hospital - hernia operation. > As you men will appreciate his hernia was quite low down in the groin area - - there is a lot of groaning when sittting down, sitting up and laying down.
