Guest guest
, My mom takes Cholchicine for FMF. I haven't heard of using that medication for the other PFS's. But of coarse...I'm not a doctor. Cheri

Guest guest
Hi there. My son started colchicine two and a half months ago. and I was freaked out about the drug. But it seems to have slowed down the fever syndrome. we even had a two month break, sense birth for 13 years it has been ever two to three weeks so we were in heaven. My son had no problem adjusting to the drug. The only problem is his tiredness. did they start slow on the drug. my son started on a half pill twice a day for a week then a whole pill in the morning and a half in the evening for a week then one pill twice a day. if you go into the fmf group at groups they are experts on the pill. there are very young kids taking colchicine. so maybe you could ask them. good luck char ************** Start the year off right. Guest guest
Our rheumatologist also said that colchocine was for FMF but if Cimeditine did not work that she would try that drug (and my daughter has )...so, i guess it depends on the doctor. But, I was told it was not a dangerous drug. Good Luck...and I pray it works! Fern.

Guest guest
Char- Thanks for the tip on going to the FMF group-great idea. You've been dealing with this for 13 years and no break until now? That blows my mind and scares the heck out of me! You mentioned the tierdness...is this effecting his iron levels? Have you been instructed to give him a supplement? After reading abut Colchicine, I am VERY suprised the doc did not reccommend an iron supplement in conjunction for my son and did not mention monitoring of his kidneys (as the warnings direct). Thanks,
Guest guest
hi there . colchicine works on a cellular level. it takes the inflammatory cells and stops them from binding together so until his body is used to it the dr. said he will be tired. he just had blood work Thursday last week and i guess all is well right now. he gets the protein in his urine monitored every time he goes to the specialist. so yes they do keep a close watch on the colchicine in the body. i myself am worried that they started the colchicine to late, from what I have read that people who may have fmf and don't get the colchicine started early in life they have kidney problems by thirty. And even if they still have episodes during the time they are taking the colchicine its stopping the proteins from going to the major organs. so it's a good thing. Maybe with you getting started now you will have a much needed rest. Your little one may take to it like water and all will be well take care and good luck with your decision char. ************** Start the year off right. Guest guest
Hi , was on colchicine for a few months. For us, it worked better at getting rid of her fevers than the cimitidine. She was in a really bad fever cycle and the cochicine really seemed to break her out of it. We probably would have continued with it but a side effect of colchicine is neutropenia - something MC is prone to anyway. She had no problems adjusting to the medication. I too was worried about putting her on it. My doctor never mentioned monitoring her labs either... Good luck! Micah
