As posted earlier (with a few extra notes)...

" We tried Prednisone and it did in fact work - we started with the 2

mg/kg dosage (which equaled 2 teaspoons of Orapred for a 32 pound 2-year

old), but that dosage made her get very aggressive and fevers started

coming every 12-14 days. In the end, we were using closer to .6 mg/kg

(about 3 mls for a 35 pound 2-year old) - and it did work, but she would

have a low grade (100) fever the following day. Without Prednisone

she'd run about 103-105 (sometimes higher spikes) for about 4-7 days.

And yes - we gave Tylenol and Motrin every 3 hours for that full time. "

What I didn't say earlier was that once we got back down to a .6 mg/kg dose, the

fevers spread back out to 25-35 days.

If you want to try Prednisone, I'd recommend more like a 1 mg/kg to start than

what we did with a 2 mg/kg dose. There was even an article posted recently on

this site that doctors are finding that a lower dosage than originally thought

now works - like we found .6 mg/kg worked enought for us - we could handle a

follow on day of 100 degree fever.

Hope that helps some.

Thank you so much for responding! I will find the article on this site

so I can share it with my Dr.

Her pedi isn't so much concerned with using the prednisone but rather

if it increases the frequency of her fevers and we have to increase

the usage. I am trying to gather as much information as possible. I'd

like to treat with the prednisone versus her suffering for at least 4

days every month or so. I just don't want her to suffer any side

effects from it ya know? Thanks again!
