Guest guest
Sharon. It is doctor Lipton that I go to see tomorrow about my liver problems and to see if I can start back on Gleevec or if I have to switch to Sprycel. From: Lottie Duthu Sent: Tuesday, May 12, 2009 2:53 PM CML Subject: [ ] Hepatomegaly Dear Sharon, I looked up the definition of hepatomegaly and found this from Mayo Clinic. " Normally, an adult liver is about the size of a small football. Sometimes, however, the liver becomes enlarged. This is known as enlarged liver, or hepatomegaly (hep-uh-to-MEG-uh-le). Enlarged liver isn't a disease. It's a sign of an underlying problem, such as hepatitis, congestive heart failure or cancer. Treatment of an enlarged liver depends on the cause. " Notice it says that the underlying problem can be cancer, so that narrows it down some. Just try to find out as much as you can about how your liver reacts to Gleevec and maybe treatment with a steroid and witholding it for a while will help. If not, it may be time for a change. Are you feeling any better. You had said earlier that you spent your time in bed when you weren't working. I hope when you get to see Dr. Liption, you will be reassured that he can work with your problem. This is not new, so listen to what others have done to overcome this and you will feel better knowing it can be in the past for you. Blessings, Lottie
Guest guest
Lottie, Thanks for the reply.I am not seeing Dr.Lipton.I see Dr.Tsai in a small cancer clininc in Lancaster,Ca.Not a specialist. Not one available here.I do spend alot of time in bed.I don't work.Been disabled for about 10 years now.Dx with Leukemia almost a year ago.I have alot of side effects but this past 3 weeks or so have been much better.I still have alot of side effects and non cml health issues and create bad days/weeks for me.I have 4 different Dr.s who are trying to figure out what is going on with me.I get tired and frustrated with the pain and syptoms all the time but know others are worse off than I.I keep searching.. I was tested for Hepatitis and it was ok.I am thinking it is Gleevec related but not known for sure.I am in contact with my Lapband surgeon to see if it could be band related as well.
