Bec,

Bless you! Many of us have children too young to talk about how they

feel. I'm surprised you are on Colchicine for - but I've seen a

few posts for that. Many that have FMF take it. The most common drug

I've seen for is Prednisone - an oral steroid. But it made my

daughter very aggressive (she was only 2 years old), so I don't actually

know how it made her feel. We also tried Tagamet/Cimetidine - but it

didn't work for my daughter - same symptoms (fever every 10-35 days

lasted 4-7 days without Prednisone, temperatures 104-107).

We have had 7 months fever free since the T & A. She also seems to

generally be happier and sleep better.

Best of luck to you. I hope you can get answers to your questions on

this group. It is a great group for moral support. I'm sure that we

all want to hear from you - as you can actually talk about how you feel.

12/11/07, Fever-free since 11/16/07)

Bec,

My son has had since he was about a year and a half old.

He is four and a half now and had his tonsils out in January. He has

not had a fever since. He used to get them every 3-7 weeks (with 3

being the norm). Now he has been fever free for almost 6 months. He is

a different child, much stronger, happier, and so much more energy (in

a good way!) Since having his tonsils out he has stopped napping and

has gained five pounds.

It's a really hard decision to make, and it doesn't work for everyone,

but it has really been good for him. We had a doctor who used a cold

technique for the tonsillectomy, using a special foam called surgifoam

instead of cauterizing (burning to stop bleeding). 's recovery

was really easy. He only took one dose of pain meds, ate and drank

normally even the day after surgery, and was back to preschool five

days after surgery. If you decide to pursue tonsillectomy, we would

highly recommend this method.

Good luck to you. I'm glad you found this group!
